US Open Women’s Semi Finals Preview and Betting Tips
The final Grand Slam of the 2015 calendar, the US Open, is reaching the final stages. On Thursday evening (US Time), the final four in the Women’s draw will compete to reach the finals. Serena Williams will take on Roberta Vinci while Flavia Pennetta will play Simona Halep at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.
Serena is a hot favourite for every follower from well before the tournament began. The World number 1 is chasing the ‘Calendar Slam’ and looks all set to complete it. Nothing thrown at her this year at major tournaments has looked capable of derailing her. She did look frustrated at times in her match against big sister Venus Williams in the quarter-finals. But, the fighter in Serena never throws in the towel and that is exactly what makes her very dangerous.
Serena’s opponent will be the surprise Italian challenger Roberta Vinci. The 32-year-old is a regular surprise at the US Open having reached the quarter-finals or better for three of the last four years. She is well known for her doubles accomplishments but it would be a huge task for her to win against Serena.
Flavia Pennetta will complete the Italian double at the semi-finals after she upset Petra Kvitova in three sets. This is her second semi-final at the Flushing Meadows in three years. The Italian herself would not have dreamt to stay so far in the tournament and should be an underdog with nothing to lose. That could make her a dangerous opponent.
Simona Halep edged past Victoria Azarenka in a tough quarter-final to reach her first US Open semi-final. The Romanian is the number 2 seed but hasn’t justified her world ranking yet at Grand Slam tournaments. Her record against Pennetta is 1-3, although she will take comfort in her last match victory in straight sets.
It is difficult to see Serena losing in the semi-finals but the best odds you’ll find at just $1.06 at Ladbrokes. A clean 2-0 win for Williams in set betting at $1.25 at CrownBet offers a little more value. The form she is in and the tenacity she brings to the court makes her an opponent no player wants to face. In the other semi-final, Halep may have an inferior record against her opponent but should be good to reach the finals. Halep is priced at $1.30 to win the semi at Ladbrokes.
