US Open Women’s Final Preview and Betting Tips
It is finals time at Flushing Meadows in New York as the 2015 US Open has reached the last leg of action. In the Women’s draw, beating all the odds, two surprise finalists from Italy will be battling for the trophy.
Flavia Pennetta and Roberta Vinci are well known names on the doubles circuit but their singles exploits are not well documented. Riding high on their experience in Grand Slams and constructing a couple of big upsets along the way, both have reached their first singles Grand Slam final.
Pennetta is the seeded of the two as the 26th seed. She upset the much-fancied Romanian second seed Simona Halep in the semi-finals. In just 59 minutes she brushed aside the stocky Halep 6-1, 6-3 to upset all the calculations. The match got pushed to Friday because of rain but the Italian looked least perturbed.
If one thought that was an upset, there were more surprises waiting in the second semi-final. The second Italian in the final four, Roberta Vinci, shocked the whole Tennis world by upsetting the great Serena Williams. The 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 win by Vinci will rank high on the all-time upsets of tennis.
Serena was chasing history as she was bidding to become just the second woman to win a ‘Calendar Slam’. But Vinci had other ideas pushing Serena to a corner after losing the first set. Serena was troubled with illness too, but the fighter in her didn’t give in easily. As such, the victory by Vinci is all the more commendable.
Pennetta may be the one favoured by bookies but Vinci should be ready to carry on with her exploits from the semis. It’s not every day that you overcome Serena Williams and it will definitely give her a massive confidence boost. It seems like a tournament for the underdogs so why not stick with Vinci to raise the trophy at odds of $6.00 at Sportsbet.
Being in the finals is not a new thing for these two doubles specialists but being in singles finals definitely is. Both of them have already surpassed their own expectations by reaching the finals, but one of the Italian girls will be living a dream come true when they claim the US Open Grand Slam title.
