With all the hype surrounding the upcoming fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor, one of the next best rivalries in fighting has almost been forgotten in the lead up to UFC 214 this weekend. Light Heavyweights Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones will reignite their hatred for one another with their long awaited rematch set to headline UFC 214 from Anaheim, California this Sunday (AEST). We will take a look at a few of the fights on the main card and give our betting tips below.

Daniel Cormier vs Jon Jones (Light Heavyweight)
Many describe him as the greatest fighter to ever grace the UFC, however, it feels like an absolute eternity since we’ve seen Jon Jones in action. After Jones defeated Cormier to retain his light heavyweight title all the way back at UFC 182 in 2015, their original rematch was scheduled for UFC 197 before Cormier had to withdraw with injury. Another rematch was then scheduled for the monster UFC 200 card but Jones was pulled from the event due to a violation of doping policy.

It will be the first fight since Jones ban so it’s hard to know what to expect of him, however, if he brings even half of the form that saw him rack up a 22-1 record than he will be tough to beat. Jones’ current 13 fight win streak in the light heavyweight division is the longest current streak in the UFC and second longest in history behind only the great Anderson Silva’s mark of 16.

While Cormier has only fought 9 times in the UFC after a successful career in the Strikeforce organistion, he has already claimed some massive scalpsincluding Anthony Johnson, Anderson Silva and Frank Mir with his only loss coming at the hands of Jones.

Cormier’s fighting style relies on the ability to take his opponent down and enforce the submission. Three of his last five wins have come through submission using the rear naked choke. This is daunting for Cormier, as Jones has never been submitted or even knocked down in his 23 fights to date. Jones is an elite striker and has a 5 inch height and 12 inch reach advantage over the smaller Cormier, so if this fight stays upright we only see it going one way.

TIP: Jon Jones to win via decision – $2.20 at Sportsbet

Tyron Woodley vs Damian Maia (Welterweight)
Current Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley will attempt to defend his title for the third time when he meets Brazilian Damian Maia in the penultimate fight of UFC 214 on Sunday. Woodley overcame Robbie Lawler in July of 2016 to win the Welterweight crown and since then has fought in one draw and one win against Stephen Thompson, successfully retaining the title both times.

Maia stands next in line for a shot at the Welterweight title after he extended his winning streak to seven fights with a win over 6th ranked Welterweight Jorge Masvidal back in May of this year.

Much like the light heavyweight bout to come after it, this fight will be a tale of contrasting styles. Tyron Woodley will attempt to keep this fight a boxing match because if there’s one thing that Damian Maia does better than anyone in the world its grapple and set you up for a submission. The Brazilian is no surprise a master of Jiu-Jitsu and could have a massive advantage if this fight goes to ground. Woodley has stated in press conferences leading up to the event that he thinks people underrate his wrestling abilities so he could try to prove people wrong by letting this fight go to ground, which we think would be a mistake. If Woodley can recognise the easiest way to a victory here is by keeping the fight on the feet then he should do well but at $2.75 for Maia we like the chances of him getting an advantage on the ground.

TIP: Damian Maia to win – $2.75 at CrownBet
