UFC 209 has arrived and while it might not be the most exciting fight card, Kiwi and Australian MMA fans will be happy to see Mark Hunt back in the octagon as he is set to battle fellow heavyweight veteran Alistair Overeem. We have UFC 209 betting tips below, focusing on what should be an interesting fight!

Hunt vs Overeem Betting Tips

It’s hard to look at Mark Hunt vs Alistair Overeem and not talk about the all the controversies outside the octagon.

Hunt recently called Overeem a “filthy cheater” and “a f**king bum” and it wasn’t said with the usual theatrics to try and get in an opponent’s head before a fight. It was because Overeem has been caught taking performance-enhancing drugs in the past and Hunt has been very vocal about these kind of fighters. Hunt is so passionate about this that he is even suing his own boss as he’s currently in a high-profile lawsuit with the UFC, Dana White and Brock Lesnar on the back of the UFC allowing him to fight (and beat Hunt) despite Lesnar failing drug tests. All this just ads an extra layer to what will already be a fiery encounter.

When considering the actual match-up, the two fighters have met once with the Dutch Overeem defeating Hunt by submission in the 1st round back in 2008. Both fighters have evolved since then, but a lot will have to go right for Hunt to win this time around.

Overeem has the height and reach advantage and while Hunt perhaps has more power when he does land his hits, he’s going to find it hard to get within range to do this. Hunt is going to have take some hits and land his own, which he luckily does have the durability to do.

There is no doubt this will be a vicious fight and Hunt certainly has something to prove to back-up his vocal bashing of the UFC and fighters like Overeem. You can’t write Hunt off, but all signs lean to an Overeem victory in what is arguably a coinflip battle. If things go right for Hunt, he can knock Overeem out. But one wrong move and Overeem can do the same. The advantage for Overeem comes with his ability on the ground where he has had 19 career submission victories. Giving the edge to Overeem and don’t think the fight will go the distance.
