Sportsbet Punter Turns $4.20 Brownlow Multi Into Almost $1 Million
A Sportsbet customer has transformed a $4.20 stake into an extraordinary $997,946 payout after correctly predicting the Brownlow Medal vote ranges of 12 AFL players.
The punter placed the wager through Sportsbet’s Pick Your Own Vote markets ahead of Monday night’s count, combining 12 selections at total odds of $237,606.
All 12 players reached their required vote totals—but the result remained in doubt until the closing stages of the count.
Rankine delivers with final-round votes
Izak Rankine was the most difficult selection in the multi, backed at $10.50 to collect at least 25 votes.
The Adelaide star entered Round 24 needing three more votes to reach the target. He received maximum votes for his 35-disposal and four-goal performance against Greater Western Sydney, finishing the count on exactly 25.
Those three votes completed the multi and delivered the punter a return just short of $1 million.
Harry Sheezel was another ambitious selection, priced at $6.25 to reach 25 votes. The North Melbourne midfielder comfortably cleared the line with 27.
Other higher-priced legs included Murphy Reid to poll 15 or more votes at $5.70, Connor Macdonald to reach 10 at $4.90 and Clayton Oliver to collect at least 15 at $3.60.
All three delivered, although Murphy Reid provided another narrow escape by finishing on exactly 15 votes.
Three selections — Rankine, Harley Reid and Murphy Reid—finished directly on their required totals. A single fewer vote for any of them would have cost the punter the entire payout.

Sportsbet’s Josh Jenkins described it as one of the best multi bets the bookmaker had seen, acknowledging the nervous finish as the final rounds were read out.
While Brownlow multis offering enormous potential returns are common before the count, successfully combining 12 player vote ranges is exceptionally difficult. Each selection depends not only on a player’s season but also on how umpires distribute votes across individual matches.
In this case, all 12 predictions fell into place, turning the price of a coffee into one of the biggest publicly reported Brownlow betting wins.
