On Thursday Night Football this week the Brisbane Broncos will play hosts to the Melbourne Storm. After 25 rounds, the Broncos are sitting second on ladder and the Storm are fighting for a top four finish.
This will be the 38th time these two teams have faced off during the modern game. With 24 wins including 19 away, the Storm are clearly the dominate force in this rivalry. Storm sit comfortably with a 75% win rate at Suncorp stadium. The last time these teams met was in round 15 when the Broncos won 14-12 at AAMI Park.
The Broncos have been having a great season, notching up 17 victories including 9 at home. This week they’re in for a big battle against the Storm. Ben Hunt has been ruled out with
debutante Ashley Taylor replacing him at halfback. Back-rower Alex Glenn is out suspended and Jarrod Wallace will replace him. Lachlan Maranta comes in on the Wing with Jordan Kahu who is out injured. Veteran Justin Hodges will Captain the Broncos for his last regular season game.
Storm had a strong victory last weekend against the Cowboys, but with only a 5 day turnaround the Broncos will pose a huge obstacle. Cameron Munster is on fire, relishing his chance at fullback with Slater out for the season. Last week he provided the Storm 268 metres, 5 tackles and a nice little line break. Jordan Mclean moves to the bench with Tim Glasby starting at Prop.
By the stats the Broncos are superior in many ways. After 23 games they have a scoring average is 24.61, 5 points higher than the Storm. They lead the Storm in line breaks, running metres and hitups.
Storm however conceded fewer tries, tackle more and have a higher time in possession. The Broncos share a similar style of play to the Cowboys. Last week the Storm dismantled the Cowboys and with their historical dominance at Suncorp leads us to believe there is plenty of value on offer for Melbourne.
Ben Hunt is a enormous loss for the Broncos. The new halves combination of Anthony Milford and Ashley Taylor doesn’t have the class or the skill to beat Storm’s Cooper Cronk and Cameron Munster. This week, because Storm tend to score quickly we’ve opted to take advantage of CrownBets First try but lose promo. We also like Matt Duffie to score the first try for those that want a cheeky exotic bet.
