NRL Round 24 ‘Pick of the Week’
Saturday Night Football will be full of action this week as the top two sides face off in an absolute clash of the titan’s event – the number one side the Brisbane Broncos have travelled south the take on the Sydney Roosters on at Allianz Stadium.
The Rooster will have a tough battle against the Brisbane Broncos. In the modern era of the game this will be the 30th time these two great teams front up against one another. With only 13 victories the Rooster are slightly behind, but their home field advantage will set the scene for another epic battle.
The Rooster are in phenomenal form at the moment, coming in to this one with 9 straight victories under their belts. Last week they faced off against the Parramatta Eels and as expected came home victorious. Parramatta came out swinging, but the maturity and experience of the Roosters allowed them to keep their cool and take control of the game in the second half, scoring four unanswered tries in the second 40 minutes. James Maloney is playing fantastically this season, rarely missing his conversions. He is currently leading the league with 198 points scored this season. He even manages to cross the line, having scored 9 tries this year.
In Brisbane things are going great as they’re sitting on the top of the ladder with 16 wins and only 5 losses. In saying that two of those loses have come in the last few weeks. They were spanked by the Sea Eagles in round 21 losing 44-14 and the suffering a heartbreaking loss to the Bulldogs in Round 22 when they went down 16-18.
The Broncos did show what they can do last week when they turned it around against the Dragons winning 32 -6. They scored early and held the tempo of the game for the first 70 minutes. This week Brisbane will need to muster up all their talent and trust us, they’ve got plenty of it. The big man Sam Thaiday will be leading the defensive charge. The last time these two teams played Sammy was instrumental. He carried the Broncos defence and destroyed the Roosters’ prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves allowing the Broncos to come away with a 22-18 golden point victory.
The Broncos also have their version of the awesome foursome to lean on, the teams powerhouse quartet featuring the skills of Darius Boyd, Ben Hunt, Anthony Milford and Andrew McCullough. Statically these guys are the most dominate force to ever wear the Broncos jersey, coming in to this one with a staggering stat of 162 scoring opportunities between them this season.
It looks like this will come down to defence. We think the Broncos will keep their place at the top of the ladder. There is also plenty of value with CrownBet offering the Broncos at $2.66 against the favourites.
