ICC Women’s World Cup: Semi Final 2 Betting Tips

July 20, 2017 by Posted in Cricket Tips

England lived up to its tag of pre-tournament favourites by reaching the finals of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017. Now it is the turn of Australia or India to join them in the finals. The second semi-final would be played at the County Ground, Derby on Thursday, July 20.

Defending Champions Australia will be heavy favourites to progress. India surprised a few with their run and have nothing to lose from here. Will there be an upset or will the status quo remain?

Route to the semis
Australia set the pace for the tournament with four consecutive wins only to be tripped by old foe England in their fifth. That proved to be a minor blip as two more wins cemented their place in the semis with 12 points and a second-place finish in the league stage.

India were the early surprise package of the tournament by notching four wins on the trot – including a stunning win over England in the opener. Heavy losses to South Africa and Australia meant that their last game against New Zealand was a virtual quarter-final. They won the game emphatically to finish third in the table with 10 points.

Key players
Australian batting has been sensational even though their linchpin and captain Meg Lanning had to sit out a couple of games. Ellyse Perry (366 runs), Nicole Bolton (337) and Lanning (328) have been the torch bearers with the bat. Leg-spinner Kirsten Beams (11 wickets) has been a revelation with the ball while Jess Jonassen, Megan Schutt and Perry all chipped in with 9 wickets each.

Indian batting revolved around their captain Mithali Raj (356 runs) while Pramila Raut (281) has been consistent at the top. Indian bowling is all about their spinners as Ekta Bisht (9 wickets), Deepti Sharma (9) and Poonam Yadav (8) signify.

Australia have a very formidable record of 34-8 in 42 matches against India. In England, their record is impregnable as the two sides played each other thrice and the Aussies winning them all. That included a comfortable eight-wicket win earlier this tournament.

At this venue, the Australian women are yet to play a match although they played two – and lost both – so far.

India on the other hand have happy memories of this ground in the tournament winning all four of their matches against England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

Australia are strong favourites to join England in the final, at odds of $1.25 (William Hill). An Indian win is tipped at odds of $4.33 (Ladbrokes) but it requires a brave heart to back that.

Mithali has been in cracking form for India leading their run charts. Odds of $3.5 (William Hill) make her favourite to be top India batsman.

TIP: Mithali top Indian batsman – $3.50 at William Hill

Australia at odds of $1.67 (Ladbrokes) are favourites to score more in the first 15 overs. Considering the slow starts that India are accustomed to, this could be a prudent pick.

TIP: Australia to score more in the first 15 overs – $1.67 at Ladbrokes
