Golf Betting Tips: 2017 USPGA Championship

August 9, 2017 by Posted in Betting Tips

The final golf major of the 2017 calendar, the USPGA Championship will kick off this Thursday, the 10th of August from Quail Hollow Golf Club in North Carolina.

The course has undergone a remarkable renovation in recent months, and the players describe the changes as making the tougher in most aspects of the game. The upgrade created three brand new holes, completely overhauled fairways, a new type of grass in the rough and completely reshaped greens.

The front nine in particular will be completely different to the last time a golf tournament was played there, the 2016 Wells Fargo Invitational. The course is a fairly long one at over 7,400 yards and has seen some big hitting winners in the past in Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. The fifth hole being changed from a par five to a par four makes the course even longer which could play to the advantage of the big hitters here.

Jordan Spieth is coming off a huge win at the Open Championship a few weeks ago and will enter the tournament as one of the hot favourites at $10. He’s shown in the past how much of a form player he can be, as one of the only players in history to place in the top ten of all four majors in one year. He’s a worthy favourite but his lack of serious length has us steering away from him here.

Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson seem to be the two obvious choices heading into the tournament. Two of the longest hitters on tour and two of the most in form golfers in the world at the moment. Rory has a ridiculous record at the old Hollow course and should adjust well to the changes, is the favourite for the tournament at $7 and rightfully so.

TIP: Rory McIlroy to win – $7 at Sportsbet

Of the Aussies, Adam Scott’s long driver and iron play will put him in a good position. He has had a fairly good 2017 so far, tying for 9th at the Masters and 22nd at the Open Championship and is always a chance among the top players in the world.

TIP: Adam Scott to win – $46 at Ladbrokes

Webb Simpson is our hometown chance here. He is a member of the course and lives right next door so it’s safe to say that even after the recent renovations, he’ll know the track back to front. At $125 is a decent each way chance.

TIP: Webb Simpson – $126 at Sportsbet
