Wayne RooneyAfter an international break, the English Premier League resumes this weekend with a blockbuster clash that we look at in our soccer betting tips. Arch rivals Manchester United and Liverpool will battle it out at the Old Trafford Stadium on Saturday 12th September.

For many years, this has been one of the most anticipated games of the season. United and Liverpool are two of the most successful clubs in England. Although both clubs are going transition of their own and are no real chance of fighting for the title, the clash still ranks highly.

Both sides are on 7 points each after four games and are already 5 points behind the early leaders Manchester City.

For Manchester United, the game comes with great importance. After a shambolic end to the transfer window, Louis van Gaal will hope that his team will answer with a better performance on the pitch. Any slip-up will give further ammunition to critics. There is a mix of anticipation and caution on the arrival of teenage striker Anthony Martial who may be slotted straight away into action.

The fans, though, are still skeptical of the chances of their club this season. There is a real shortage of goals and creativity for the Red Devils and they look a pale shadow of the teams from the Sir Alex Ferguson era. The injury blow to Michael Carrick may further weaken their chances.

Liverpool aren’t faring much better with the Merseyside club too struggling for goals. With only two goals so far this season, they are rock bottom for number of goals scored – joint worst this season. The absence of playmaker Philippe Coutinho will not just dampen their attacking threats but also their resolve.

The traditional rivalry and the rich history of this tie alone should make this match interesting for everyone. Suspect defence and light attack of both sides indicate an open game with few goals.

Carrick’s experience will be missed by the home side but Coutinho’s absence is a bigger blow for the visitors. A Man United win is offered at odds of $1.95 at Sportsbet while a winning score of 2-1 at odds of $8.00 at Sportsbet might also be worth considering.
