English Premier League 2015/16 – The Relegation Battle

August 9, 2015 by Posted in Betting Tips, Soccer Tips

EPL relegationThe battle lines are drawn. The dawn of another English Premier League (EPL) season brings hopes for all the teams. At the top half of the table, the battle is for EPL crown and the riches of Champions League. And, at the other end of the table, an altogether different battle will be fought to escape relegation.

Of course, no team fights an entire season to get relegated. This season, the desire for the teams to not get relegated will be more profound. Reason? The lucrative £5.14 billion TV rights deal kicks in next season which means much more money for the teams in top flight.

So, all the teams will fight for survival with the knowledge that a slip-up will be really costly – from all perspectives. There are many teams that may get dragged into the relegation fight and at this moment it is very difficult to call which three will miss the bus. We look at five teams that may get into trouble.

Sunderland
Last season, the Black Cats almost got relegated – but for the capture of Dick Advocaat as the coach. The Dutchman remained as coach for this year after a flip-flop and will be eager to keep his side safe. They may get sucked into another year of relegation dogfight.

Key Player: Jermain Defoe
Odds: $3.00 (William Hill)

Leicester City
Leicester is another team that flirted with relegation for most part of the last season. An unprecedented run of seven wins from the last nine games kept them safe. The new manager Claudio Ranieri is widely expected to keep them safe but so much depends on how they fare early in the season.

Key Player: Jamie Vardy
Odds: $3.75 (William Hill)

Aston Villa
The side looked destined to be relegated last year only for Tim Sherwood to guide them to safety. He may not be lucky this time as he copes with the loss of Fabian Delph and Christian Benteke.

Key Player: Jack Grealish
Odds: $3.50 (William Hill)

Norwich City
The Canaries boss Alex Neil masterminded the promotion but may be left puffing with a weak squad at disposal. The club made some smart acquisitions but much depends on how quickly they integrate. They look capable of beating the drop at the moment, but it is too early to predict.

Key Player: Youssouf Mulumbu
Odds: $2.00 (William Hill)

Watford
The club celebrated promotion by signing well-regarded Spanish manager Quique Flores. They also strengthened considerably with some notable signings so far. If they can survive the tough Christmas period, they look set to beat the drop.

Key Player: Troy Deeney
Odds: $1.62 (William Hill)
