England vs New Zealand

New Zealand will look to end their England tour on a high when they clash with the hosts for the one-off T20 international on June 23. This match will be played at Old Trafford and comes right on the back of an enthralling ODI series.

Records tumbled like nine pins in the ODI series. England scored the highest run total by a team in a five-match series (1,617) while New Zealand scored their highest (1,534). 390 boundaries were scored by both the sides. It is also the first time that a combined 3,000 runs were scored in a five-match series.

England surprised even their ardent supporters with their performance. Eoin Morgan and his team played with refreshing freedom that you rarely associate with English sides as they recorded their first home ODI series win since 2012.

The new attacking mentality exhibited by the side surprised the visitors as they struggled to contain the free-flowing runs. Even in the last ODI, Jonny Bairstow won the game from a difficult position for the hosts. The side should be at the top of their confidence as the core of the T20 squad is from the ODI squad.

New Zealand must have felt second best through the entire series. Even though they scored their own highest total in a five-match series, the Kiwis found England too hot to handle. The lack of runs from their captain Brendon McCullum also hurt them badly.

Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor were at their best in batting but that couldn’t cover up their problems with the ball. The loss of Trent Boult hurt them as was the loss of Tim Southee’s form. These will be the times when captains of old used to summon Daniel Vettori, but McCullum has no such luxury.

McCullum must be hurting from the loss and would want to lead the way in the shortest format. Expect him to be the best New Zealand batsman at odds of $3.80 offered by CrownBet. Joe Root at odds of $5.00 to be England’s top batsman is also an attractive bet at CrownBet.

As for the match itself, the market can’t split them at $1.90 apiece at CrownBet and it does look a particularly tough match to predict – such is the nature of the T20 format. We’ll lean slightly to the Kiwi outfit with McCullum to lead the way.
