Eagle Farm Racing: QTC Cup Betting Tips

While the Queensland Oaks is the feature race on the card, the Group 2 QTC Cup promises to be a cracking contest when racing returns to Eagle Farm this weekend for the first time in 653 days!

The meeting is set to be run on wet ground with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting somewhere between 35mm and 100mm of rain in Brisbane on Saturday.

We should have a decent tempo throughout the race with speedball Eloping engaged, and she will likely be joined out the front by the second-favourite Spill The Beans.

Outside of those two, however, there doesn’t look to be much competition for places up front. This may give Stratum Star the opportunity to roll forward from barrier 13, while Steel Zip may make use of the inside draw to hold a handy position on his return to racing.

Group 1 winning Kiwi Perfect Fit draws barrier 2 and could hold a position just behind the speed, while Liberation and Sacred Star are likely to take up positions in midfield.

Target In Sight, Snippets Land, Kaepernick, Sure And Fast and Trubia will make up the rear division of the field, but each should get their chance on the big Eagle Farm track.

I’ve narrowed this down to 4 winning chances and one roughie. I see the four main chances as Kaepernick, Snippets Land, Eloping and Perfect Fit, while Stratum Star shapes as a roughie on his best form.

Kaepernick is clearly the one to beat in my mind. His win first up at Scone was scintillating and backed up his two good trials leading into this prep. His second up record is outstanding and despite the fact he will have to come from a long way back, the Eagle Farm track should play well for backmarkers. The only query will be the wet track.

Snippets Land recorded a big win at Doomben last start in a Group 3. He had to come from a long well back but he stormed home to pip the well backed Religify on the line. His record at the distance is nearly perfect so he should b competitive once again.

Eloping returned from a spell with a dominant 3 length victory at the Gold Coast where she ran the field off their feet. She drops to 53kg here and from the good draw she will get an uncontested lead. The 1300m may test her but if she gets things to suit her she should give a very good sight.

Spill The Beans also drops to 53kg after his runner up finish in the Scone Guineas as odds on favourite. He gets the blinkers back on here but more importantly he has 3 wins from 4 starts on wet ground which brings him right into this as a serious winning chance. From the good draw he will get a beautiful run and could have a head start on most of the others.

Stratum Star is the only other one I could entertain. On his best form he would be favourite here but he’s been struggling in Group 1 company lately. He lumps the top weight here but if he were to rediscover his best form he would be competitive.

Happy to be backing Kaepernick but he will have a big job to run down Eloping and Spill The Beans.
