Eagle Farm Racing: Club Tiara Betting Tips
Sky Racing Tattersall’s Club Tiara 1400m – Group 1 Betting Tips
The Group 1 Tatts Tiara is the final Group 1 in Queensland for the year and the final Group 1 of the Australian racing season.
The $500,000 contest is set to be contested by 15 fillies and mares under weight-for-age conditions, meaning Blueberry Hill will carry 55.5kg as the lone three-year-old filly in the field, while every other runner will carry 57kg.
The new Eagle Farm track played much softer than the Good rating it was given two weeks ago, and the track remains a Soft 6 coming into the weekend’s meeting. We saw the inside section of the track chop up two weeks ago so there’s every chance that the outside section of the straight will be the place to be once more.
The pace of the race looks fairly moderate with Echo Gal looking as if she will be the sole horse vying for the lead. She gets the blinkers back on so I don’t think there’s any doubt she will be leading the field.
There does look to be a handful of horses that like settling just behind the leaders, however, so there may be a bit of jostling early to try and land a position on the speed behind Echo Gal. Cradle Me, Miss Cover Girl, Jesse Belle and Press Report have all raced prominently recently, and with one or two of those drawing awkwardly there could be competition to slot in.
Danish Twist, Palazzo Pubblico and Beatniks should hold good positions in midfield. Onemorezeta and Artistry will attempt to slot in somewhere in midfield or worse from their wide barriers, and I expect Blueberry Hill to go back from barrier 8 after her good win from the back last start.
Azkadellia, Sultry Feeling and Scarlet Billows will likely bring up the rear of the field.
This does look a very competitive race but outside of the top four in the market it is difficult to find any other realistic winning chances.
Azkadellia comes up the $2.50 favourite but at that price I am more than happy to back others. She does look the best horse in the race but her performance in the Stradbroke last start was too bad to purely be because of her being in the worst part of the track. If she produces her best she can win but after last start I am struggling to back her at $2.50!
The two I like the look of are Danish Twist and Cradle Me. Danish Twist has won four on the bounce in the lead up to this, including wins at Group 3 and Listed level at her past two. The victories were somewhat convincing and she has never missed a place from eight starts over 1400m. She’s also finished in the top two at 6 of her 7 start on Soft tracks, and with Hugh Bowman engaged to ride, she shapes as a very good chance at $6.00.
Cradle Me on the other hand produced a strong performance to win the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes over this track and distance last start. She was aided by a good ride that day and once again has the services of Zac Purton today. She actually gets in better at the weights than most of the horses she beat that day and if she reproduces that performance she will give this a real shake. Barrier 13 will mean she won’t get as easy a run as she did last start but I’m still expecting her to run a big race.
The other one to consider is Group 1 winner Precious Gem who won the UBET Classic two starts ago at Morphettville. Last start she finished midfield in a strong edition of the Stradbroke adn despite being beaten 7 lengths, the run wasn’t as bad given the way the track was playing. She also stepped away slowly and came from a long way back, so if you can forgive her for that then her form looks very good for this race. Her problem will be the wet track.
The roughie could be last-start winner Blueberry Hill who came from the back of the field to win the Gai Waterhouse Classic at Ipswich last start. She gets 1.5kg off the older horses here and from barrier 8 I expect her to be ridden quiet once more. The key for her is her undefeated record on wet tracks. The 1400m won’t be a problem but she handles the wet ground better than most in this race which makes her a decent roughie at 25/1.
Jesse Belle, Artistry and Onemorezeta should be near the placings, while you can never fully discount a Darren Weir runner in a Group 1 so Scarlet Billows gets some thought.
