Doomben Racing: 2017 Tattersall’s Tiara Betting Tips
The Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara for the fillies and mares is the feature race in Australia this weekend.
A capacity field of 16 runners will line up over the 1350m at Doomben, where the track is currently rated a Soft 5 but expected to reach a Good 4 by race time.
There looks to be a fair amount of speed here with a number of runners expected to go forward from their wide barriers. In Her Time (16), Bonny O’Reilly (17), Eckstein (14) and Rare Occurrence (10) should all push forward, while Tycoon Tara (6) will be up on speed from her good gate.
Overall I expect we’l get a solid tempo here given the speed from out wide, the fact it’s a Group 1 race with 16 runners, and perhaps most importantly, the way the Doomben track tends to favour those up on the speed.
Despite the company she’s sure to get fighting for the lead, I still think In Her Time is the horse to beat here, and I’ve got her on top by a pretty clear margin. Her two runs this campaign have been nothing short of fantastic. First up in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 she was caught 3-wide without cover up on speed and was only beaten 3 lengths. Last start in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap she was once again caught 3-wide on the speed and still ran 2nd, beaten just 0.3L. That form for this race is simply superior to the others, and if she gets any luck at all throughout the race, she’ll be your winner.
There isn’t any shortage of winning chances outside of her, though, and I think there’s a couple of runners that represent value.
The first of those is Tycoon Tara for the formidable combination of Snowden and McEvoy. She’s had four runs so far this campaign and they’ve not been overly impressive, but I think she’s ready to show something here. She carried the big weight last start and wasn’t too far away, and with the drop in weight along with the aid of a good barrier, I think she can run a big race at around 25/1.
The other value runner could be Danish Twist. She resumed with a 7th placing up in Sydney, but was only beaten 2.5L and she has a much better second up record than first up record. She’s had one start at the track and distance for a win, and only last prep ran 2nd by a nose in this company. With the hot tempo expected, she could be the one charging home from the back. $19 for her.
Bonny O’Reilly continues to improve with every run but has a horrible barrier in 17. She will roll forward but risks getting caught wide. If she manages to get an economical run there is no reason she can’t fill a placing. The same can be said about Eckstein who comes off a good win in Group 3 company at Eagle Farm last start.
Prompt Response has serious claims on the back of a win in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes over this track and distance last start. She’s in fantastic form and as a three-year-old filly she carries less weight than the mares. Draws well so should be able to settle midfield similar to where she was last start, and it’d be no surprise to see her cross the line first.
Miss Gunpowder comes off a good win and Nancy was terribly unlucky not to win last start, so both are worth including.
