Cricket Betting: West Indies vs England ODI Series Preview
It will be the clash of two of the most entertaining sides in ODI cricket as West Indies and England get ready to play a Three-Match ODI series in the Caribbean Islands. The first of the matches will be played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on Friday, March 3.
New coach equals new luck?
Former Australian batsman Stuart Law will start his stint as the head coach of West Indies with this series. His task is cut out though, as he faces a tricky assignment with a side that is deprived of star names.
The likes of Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard and Sunil Narine are missing from this squad for various reasons. There still is enough firepower though, to challenge the high-flying visitors. The likes of Evin Lewis, Rovman Powell with the bat and Alzarri Joseph, Shannon Gabriel with the ball augurs well for them. It still remains a huge challenge for captain Jason Holder who has the twin challenge of justifying his place as a player and as a captain to the ever-growing list of his critics.
Entertaining or indiscipline?
Depending on how you see, England’s current ODI disposition is either too entertaining or lacking discipline. The positive cricket that Eoin Morgan’s team plays these days makes them a fan favourite – something which is a rarity for England ODI teams.
Alex Hales is yet to recover from injury but there is still enough firepower in this line-up. With Jason Roy, Joe Root, Morgan, Ben Stokes and Jason Buttler in the team, England will be difficult to stop. Bowling will be a concern for the visitors though having been one of the worst performers with the ball since April 2015.
Odds
England have an upper hand over West Indies in the recent times having won 12 of the last 17 ODIs. With six wins of the last seven matches, they start as favourites for the series. At odds of 1.29 (William Hill) a bet on their series win isn’t of much value.
Of slightly more interest is a punt on England winning the series 2-1; which is offered at odds of $2.25 (Ladbrokes). Root at odds of $3.50 (William Hill) and Kraigg Brathwaite at odds of $4.50 (William Hill) look decent picks to end up as best batsmen for their sides.
