Cricket Betting: Australia vs South Africa T20 Game 1 Preview

March 4, 2016 by Posted in Cricket Tips

Two teams with plenty of questions to answer seek directions to the upcoming T20 World Cup over three T20 Internationals. The first match of the series between South Africa and Australia will be played at Durban on March 4th.

South Africa is not an ideal location to prepare for the World Cup with conditions different from what they will encounter in India. However, there is every chance of the teams facing slow and dry wickets in an attempt to replicate Indian conditions.

New captain Steve Smith will have little bedding time as he sets his eyes on the grand prize. Their recent series ended in a 3-0 whitewash at home at the hands of India and they will need to show vast improvement if they want success in this series. It was only last month that he led the Test team in New Zealand to the top of the ICC rankings and the T20 side would do well with some of that magic.

The Kangaroos have a rich array of options at the top with Aaron Finch, Shane Watson, David Warner and the in-form Usman Khawaja jostling for the openers’ slots. Questions will be asked of the team’s competence in handling spinners – which was brutally exposed by India in the previous series and which would be on agenda in the World Cup. Focus in bowling would be on Adam Zampa and Glenn Maxwell while Andrew Tye’s variations could be very useful at the death.

South Africa will be pumped up at the sight of their old enemy given their recent impressive record in this format. Winning three of their last four T20 series, the Proteas will be on a high going into this one. Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis are very comfortable against the spin and the presence of Imran Tahir gives them an edge in bowling too. The return of Dale Steyn should boost them further though he’s yet to prove his fitness and will use this series to do just that.

Maxwell will be one of the vital players for Australia in this series as well as in India considering his big-hitting and slow bowling. It is a risky bet but he could end up being their best batsman at $7.50 with Sportsbet.

However Usman Khawaja should be high up on everyone’s list to be their best batsman at $3.75 with Sportsbet.

Tahir could be the best bowler for South Africa at $4.50 with William Hill.

John Hastings could be the surprise pick from the visitors with the ball at $3.75 with William Hill.

There won’t be any easy single given in games between these sides as they have excellent fielding. For outsiders this could be a practice series before the finale in India but don’t expect any dull moments.
