It was a mixed tour so far for the Aussies in Sri Lanka. After coming unstuck in the Test series, the Australian ODI side showed why they are the current World Champions by steam rolling the hosts 4-1. The bandwagon now moves to T20s with the first of two matches set to be played on Tuesday, September 6.

Sri Lanka struggled to get into any rhythm in the ODI series and were struggling to maintain any toe hold despite their preference to spinning tracks. Lack of runs from their experienced batsmen continued to be their bane which means Dinesh Chandimal and co would be expected to revive their hopes in T20s.

Chandimal and Tillekeratne Dilshan are easily the two most experienced players of this Lankan side who have some exciting players like Kusal Perera and Dasun Shanaka in their fold. The squad is filled with a variety of slow bowlers indicating their preference to how they want the series to be played. Inexperience could still be their achilles heel and may put a spanner in their hopes.

And that’s where the Aussies score against their hosts. Most of the Australians have played in T20 leagues around the world and are more accustomed to the format than their opponents. The likes of David Warner, Glenn Maxwell and Usman Khawaja are T20 regulars and this should give them the slight advantage.

Captain Warner also has a strong bowling unit at his disposal led by Mitchell Starc and James Faulkner. In Adam Zampa, Warner has an exciting leggie in his squad. The bowler to watch out would be the versatile left-arm pacer James Faulkner. His cutters are best suited for this format and will be a handful on these slow pitches.

There isn’t much value on the Australian victory as they are hot favorites. But the fickle format of T20 allows hope for the hosts. Backing the Lankans to win at odds is fraught with risk, but is certainly rewarding and a possibility!

Tip: Sri Lanka to win – $2.28 at CrownBet

For Australia, Warner looks the best punt to top their batting charts – especially considering his penchant to lead by example. He could end up their best batsman. Same goes with Chandimal for Sri Lanka while Sachith Pathirana could fancy his slow orthodox spin to fetch wickets. Zampa would remain the main threat with the ball for the Aussies.

Tip: David Warner most runs Australia – $3.50 at CrownBet
