Cricket Betting: South Africa vs India T20 Series Preview

February 18, 2018 by Posted in Cricket Tips

South Africa edged out India in a hard-fought Test series (2-1) while it was India who turned the tables in the ODI series with a dominating display. However, the 5-1 scoreline wasn’t anticipated by even the harshest of South African critics.

It was all about Virat Kohli and the spin twins Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav in the ODI series. The scene is now set for a three-match T20I series starting from Sunday, February 18th. Can the hosts mount a comeback?

South Africa – will change of format change their fortunes?

The hosts will continue to miss the services of Faf du Plessis and Quinton de Kock while Hashim Amla and Kagiso Rabada have been rested, keeping in view the upcoming Test series against Australia.

There are plenty of new faces in their squad which will be led by JP Duminy. The likes of Junior Dala, Christian Jonker, and Heinrich Klaasen – their ODI series hero – have been promoted in a bid to improve their fortunes.

They still have the firepower, with AB de Villiers, David Miller, and Duminy set to make their ODI disappointments a thing of the past.

India – strong on paper

India will continue to depend on the core of their ODI squad with Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and the bowling unit of Bhuvneswar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and the spin twins of Chahal and Kuldeep leading their charge.

Suresh Raina makes a comeback into the squad while T20 specialists Jaydev Unadkat and KL Rahul will hope to transform their strength from paper to the field.

South Africa have played ten T20Is against India, winning four and losing six. However, they have won their last two encounters against India.

At home, though, the record is in favour of India who have won three of the four matches they played. The last T20I played here was in 2012 and was won by the Proteas.

This will be only the second bilateral series between these nations featuring more than one match. Two one-off matches in South Africa were won by India, while South Africa won the only multi-match series in India, by 2-0 in 2015.

Key players

AB de Villiers had a very ordinary ODI series, scoring just 62 in the final three matches after missing the first three due to an injury. Can he find a way to make it count in the T20Is?

The hunger that Kohli brings to the game in infectious and it has positively rubbed on his team, helping India scale greater peaks. With the South African bowlers at his mercy, will he continue to make merry?

India start as heavy favourites to win the tournament at odds of $1.66 (Ladbrokes) while the Proteas are tipped at odds of $2.20 (Ladbrokes). Back India to win.
