Cricket Betting: South Africa vs Australia ODI 5th Match
South Africa and Australia wind up their hostilities in the 2016 ODI series with the 5th Match at Newlands, Cape Town on 12th October. The series is already decided, but South Africa have an incentive of whitewashing their arch rivals, while Australia want to avoid the embarrassment of going down 0-5. That makes this match almost as interesting as any series decider.
The hosts have been ruthless, to say the least, so far in the series. Their batting is clicking really well despite the absence of AB de Villiers. Stand-in captain Faf du Plessis enjoyed the responsibility of leading the side while explosive starts at the top helped them blaze away.
Even in the bowling department, the emergence of Andile Phehlukwayo was a pleasant surprise while Kyle Abbott and Tabraiz Shamsi proved in the fourth ODI that there is enough depth in their bench strength. After a brilliant performance in the previous match, the pair may get another chance to start.
Australia were all over the place with the bat – although it’s their full-strength batting unit. The lack of good starts at the top due to the failures of David Warner and Steve Smith is hurting their ability to post big scores. The only time they did so, a David Miller special blew them out of the park.
The less said about the Aussie bowling, the better it would be! Having drafted a very inexperienced bowling unit, the visitors had no great expectations from them but the performances have been painstakingly bad. The only exception was John Hastings but even his wickets came at a heavy price for the Aussies.
Can the Aussies summon their fighting spirit and avoid a whitewash? On current form, it looks hardly unlikely which is why the odds on a South African win are so short. Skipping the match betting markets all together is the safest option here.
Abbott looked great in the previous match and should relish one more chance of establishing himself in this side. Back him at to end up as South Africa’s best bowler. Du Plessis, meanwhile, looks too good a punt to be the hosts best batsman.
