New Zealand Sri Lanka ODI Betting

The Black Caps will look to extend their dominance of Sri Lanka as a five-match ODI series kicks off from December 26th. The first of the matches will be played at Christchurch, New Zeland on Boxing Day and will be the focus of our latest cricket betting tips article. New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka in the last ODI series at home by a 4-2 margin.

The Kiwis showed greater control and gumption in the Test series preceding the ODI series to blank the visitors 2-0. The score line though, doesn’t showcase the effort put by the home side to turn in favourable results. The form of Kane Williamson in the Tests was not a surprise, especially considering his recent surge. He should continue to be vital in the short format too.

Bowling will wear a different outlook with Trent Boult and Tim Southee rested for three and two games respectively. Mitchell McClenaghan and Doug Bracewell will be the senior pros but the bowling squad is thin on experience. Does this provide a window of opportunity for Sri Lanka?

Angelo Mathews must have been pleased with the turn of form in the second Test which was much closer than what the result says. With the bat, it was Dinesh Chandimal who showed glimpses of his ability and should once again be important for the visitors’ fortunes. The experience of Tillakaratne Dilshan could be a soothing factor, though.

Dushmantha Chameera was a revelation in the second Test where he single-handedly took the Lankans to the door steps of victory. Mathews would be encouraged by the absence of Boult and Southee which gives his side a level-playing field.

New Zealand are a short $1.22 at Sportsbet to win the series, so there may be some value on the talents of Sri Lanka to surprise at $4.00 at Sportsbet.

This promises to be an enterprising series with good players lined up on either sides. Sri Lankan batting will revolve around Chandimal and Dilshan – one of those could turn out to be their top scorer of the series for the visitors. Watch out for Milinda Siriwardana whose long handle should suit in the smaller grounds of New Zealand. For the hosts though, much will depend on Williamson and McCullum, not to say of the experienced Ross Taylor.

Back Williamson to be top Kiwi batsman of the series at odds of $3.25 at William Hill. Chandimal at odds of $4.50 at William Hill could do the same for the visitors. McClenaghan at odds of $4.33 could be the top bet for the leading series wicket taker for the Kiwis while Nuwan Kulasekara at odds of $5.00 may prove to the best bowler for the visitors.
