Cricket Betting: New Zealand vs South Africa ODI Series Preview

February 18, 2017 by Posted in Cricket Tips

With the formalities of a one-off T20I out of the way. New Zealand and South Africa look to make the most of the five-match ODIs to plan for the upcoming Champions Trophy in England. The first match of the series will be played at Seddon Park in Hamilton this Sunday, February 19.

Can the Kiwis continue their ODI run?
Their home run in the T20Is was halted but the Kiwis have a very good recent record in the ODIs too that will take some stopping. Having taken care of Pakistan, Australia and Bangladesh successively, the hosts know all too well that this South African series will determine the success of their summer.

Martin Guptill will be missing in action for the first two games which puts more onus on Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor. Keep an eye on the consistent Neil Broom while with the ball, Trent Boult and Tim Southee continue to share the duties and are the biggest threat for the visitors.

South Africa – a tough nut to crack
Make no mistake, it’s a huge task that lies in wait for the Kiwis. Having blanked out Australia and Sri Lanka in the recent series, the Proteas are a ruthless side hunting for its next scalp.

The batting unit boasts of the likes of AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis, Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock and JP Duminy. This is enough to scare any opposition attack and New Zealand will be no exception. After sitting out of the lone T20I, Kagiso Rabada will slip back into his role as lead attacker with the ball.

Series Odds
South Africa have a formidable record against their counterparts having won 38 of the 65 encounters. In fact, they won the last series held here in 2014 by 2-0. With the Kiwis having had to go way back to 2003-04 to boast of a series win, South Africa look good to clinch the series. Back them to be the series winner.

First match odds
Over the last one year or so, De Kock has established himself as one of the most – if not the most – destructive openers of this format. He should relish the true bounce and short boundaries on offer this series. Back him at odds of $4.50 (Ladbrokes) to be their best batsman.

With a consistent run of scores, Neil Broom finds himself in the thick of things for New Zealand. But his challenge against South Africa will be of huge proportions although he has the skill to steer through. Back him at odds of $6 (Ladbrokes) to be their top batsman.

TIP: De Kock to be top Proteas run scorer in first ODI – $4.50 at Ladbrokes
