Cricket Betting: New Zealand vs Pakistan T20 Series Preview

January 15, 2016 by Posted in Cricket Tips

New Zealand vs Pakistan T20Pakistan are one the best entertainers in World cricket both on and off the pitch. There will be plenty of that entertainment on offer when New Zealand host Pakistan in a three-match T20 series starting with the first game on January 15 at Eden Park Auckland.

The series gives a chance to both the teams to test their combinations before the big one in India – the T20 World Cup. Though the conditions here will be diametrically opposite to what they encounter in the sub-continent, match conditions will give them a chance to fine tune their strategies.

For the hosts, this will be an ideal chance to start life under Kane Williamson who has taken over the mantle as captain from the soon-to-be-retiring Brendon McCullum. They come on the back of a superlative performance against Sri Lanka with Martin Guptill finding his long-lost form back. Williamson didn’t do badly either but his scoring efforts always go under the radar – a role which he is happy to play.

Tim Southee has been ruled out with an injury but the bowling still looks strong with Trent Boult and Matt Henry ready to continue their good vibes. Todd Astle has been drafted into the side with an eye on the World Cup and it will be interesting to see if he can grab the opportunity.

All eyes are likely to be on the return of Mohammad Amir after serving a five-year ICC ban for spot fixing. There are doubts if he can capture his old mojo back while there are equal number of naysayers who do not want him back in the cricket fold. Nevertheless he could be the bowler to watch from the visitors’ camp because of his prodigious swing.

‘Boom Boom’ Shahid Afridi will be scrutinized for his performance as always but he should be comfortable in the shortest format of the game. Umar Gul is also returning after a lengthy lay-off and he is one of the best exponents in this version. The Pakistan side is packed with mercurial players, but it is anyone’s guess if they can click consistently.

Williamson is a highly under-rated player in this format who scores runs as quickly as any, with minimum risks. His role with the bat will be crucial for the home side and back him at odds of $3.75 at William Hill to be their best batsman. Watch out for Amir who may turn out to be Pakistan’s best bowler at odds of $4.33 at William Hill.

It’s difficult to predict in such a volatile format but the Kiwis may just edge out the visitors and win the series at odds of $1.45 at William Hill.
