Cricket Betting: New Zealand vs Bangladesh Test Series

January 11, 2017 by Posted in Cricket Tips

New Zealand will look to continue their dominance over Bangladesh when the two teams clash in the first of a two Test series in Wellington from Thursday, January 12. The hosts already asserted their supremacy over the visitors by clean-sweeping the ODIs and T20s, making it six win-less matches for the Tigers on the tour so far.

Bangladesh showed glimpses of their potential in the shorter format but have not been consistent enough to trouble the Kiwis. To make matters difficult, their performance in Tests doesn’t enthuse confidence either!

The pain of three consecutive Test losses in India look a thing of the past now for the Kiwis. Since then, they have bounced back with a 2-0 home series win over Pakistan. They did lose before that Indian series to South Africa at home but again this Bangladesh side is not one that should give them nightmares.

Add to that the fact that the Kiwis have assembled their best possible side – no more injury absentees – mean that they should be really disappointed if they don’t clean sweep the series. Kane Williamson, Tom Latham and Ross Taylor are a handful for any bowling line-up.

Even with the ball, the presence of Trent Boult and Tim Southee in helpful conditions is a scary thought for rival batsman. And if nothing works, there’s Neil Wagner to back-up with his bouncers.
Can the Bangladesh batsmen deliver?

For Bangladesh, it’s going to be a test of their character. True, their batting is one of the strongest in their entire history. The likes of Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim collectively make a wonderful line-up. But the question is if they can perform in alien conditions.

And a bigger question is on their inexperienced bowling line-up. Taskin Ahmed – a debutant in Test cricket – is expected to lead the attack while the erratic Rubel Hossain and the untested Kamrul Islam Rabbi will look to rally around Taskin’s pace. All in all, a huge task ahead of the Tigers to match the Kiwis.

New Zealand have won eight of the previous 11 encounters between these sides together with three draws. That’s probably why there isn’t value in backing a Kiwis win for the series – odds of 1.12 (Ladbrokes). Even a 2-0 series score isn’t projecting value in the market.

TIP: New Zealand to Win 2-0 – $1.40 at CrownBet

Jeet Raval had a great start to his Test career and looks composed at the crease. Aside the usual suspects, the opener could be a dark horse to be top Kiwi batsman in the first match or the series.

TIP: Jeet Raval Most NZ Runs 1st Inn – $4.50 at CrownBet
