Cricket Betting: New Zealand vs Australia 3rd ODI

February 4, 2017 by Posted in Cricket Tips

A damp outfield at Napier led to an abandoned ODI which meant that the Aussies now cannot win the series. However, the Chappell-Hadlee trophy is still on the line as the winner of the Third ODI takes home the series. Need we say why the third match in Hamilton on Sunday, February 5 is so vital for both sides!

A chance of revenge for the hosts
The 3-0 clean sweep in the series in Australia still rankles the Kiwis. Having won a close encounter in the first ODI, the hosts now have a golden chance to reclaim the series and assuage their hurt pride.

Martin Guptill still remains a doubt for the fixture but Kane Williamson has cover in Dean Brownlie. The Kiwi squad was augmented by the addition of gifted leg-spinner Ish Sodhi going by his heroics from the same fixture last year.

With Mitchell Santner already in the squad, the hosts could go for a two-pronged spin attack. Sodhi hasn’t played an ODI since October but his form in Big Bash gave a glimpse of what he can do, on his day!

Can the Aussies find an unlikely win?
Australia came for the series with a weakened side but almost pulled off the unthinkable in Auckland. Marcus Stoinis was the unlikely hero for the Kangaroos both with the bat and ball but the ultimate six-run loss puts them in a precarious position of winning the match to retain the trophy.

The perils of a short series are such that there is very little time for recouping your form. Aaron Finch, Shaun Marsh and every Aussie batsman – with the exception of Stoinis – failed at Auckland and will be under pressure to perform.

Adam Zampa should get a look in considering the turning history of the Hamilton pitch and may prove to be a worthy addition. But more importantly, the visitors need to get their act together swiftly.

The Kiwis have happy memories of this ground against Australia having pipped them in the decider last year. The addition of Sodhi should revive happy memories of that encounter and backing the hosts to win the encounter looks a safe bet. Odds of $2.20 (bet365) make it enticing.

Sodhi had a great Big Bash with Adelaide Strikers and should feel confident although his presence in ODIs for the Black Caps was very limited. And the ground invokes happy memories too. Back the leggie to end up as top Kiwi bowler at odds of $4.50 (William Hill).

TIP: New Zealand to win – $2.20 at Bet365
