India vs Sri Lanka

India and Sri Lanka will kick-start their preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup with a three-match T20 series, with the first one kicking off February 9th at Pune.

This is the start of a hectic T20 season for India with this series followed by the Asia Cup, culminating with the big one – the T20 World Cup. That, of course, is immediately followed by the hugely popular domestic T20 tournament, the Indian Premier League (IPL). The conveyor belt of T20 excitement will kick-start tomorrow with the match against neighbours Sri Lanka.

India are on a roll in the shortest format after ambushing Australia 3-0 down under. They are ranked the number one T20 international side in the world and that ranking will be on the line in this series. Flamboyant batsman Virat Kohli will be rested for the series but there is enough depth in the side to challenge the talented Lankans.

Rohit Sharma would like to continue cashing on his recent purple patch while Ajinkya Rahane would have to thank Kohli for any chance he may get in this series. For a change, this Indian side has a lot of all-round options to choose from, including Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya and Pawan Negi. Bowling will be led by the experienced Ashish Nehra with the new-kid-on-the-block Jasprit Bumrah looking to continue from his hugely successful Australian tour.

If India is spoilt for choice, Sri Lanka would be counting the absence of their star players Angelo Mathews and Lasith Malinga. With the news that Tillakaratne Dilshan is set to miss the first match, it won’t be good news for the stand-in captain Dinesh Chandimal.

There are a couple of youngsters, especially Milinda Siriwardana, who are knocking the doors in the recent times. All-rounder Thisara Perera may have to shoulder more responsibility for the inexperienced bowling unit. The veteran Dilhara Fernando has been drafted but it has to be seen if he can prove to be worthy of his recall. Watch out for the explosive batting of Dasun Shanka who is creating waves in the local circuit with his hard-hitting.

On paper, it should be a series victory for India and their odds of $1.40 at Sportsbet to win the first T20 look about right.

Rohit is in the form of his life and should be a good bet to be the hosts’ best batsman at $3.25 at Ladbrokes while for the visitors, Chandimal at $3.50 at Ladbrokes looks best for Sri Lanka.
