Cricket Betting: India vs Australia 3rd Test Preview

March 15, 2017 by Posted in Cricket Tips

Contrary to pre-series perceptions, Australia have challenged India on spin-heavy wickets so far in the series. The score line of 1-1 justifies the effort of both sides as the action now shifts to MS Dhoni’s Ranchi for the 3rd Test starting Thursday, March 16th.

Time for a knock-out punch from the hosts?
The hosts were surprised by how strongly the Kangaroos started the series. Burdened by how abject they themselves were, India needed a partnership of the highest level between Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteswar Pujara to wriggle the initiative back.

KL Rahul’s sublime skills notwithstanding, India are found wanting at the top so far. Even Virat Kohli’s form has deserted which isn’t making things better. Pujara’s runs are a solace while Rahane seems to have rediscovered his touch.

With the ball it’s the usual suspects Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja doing the damage. But the performances of Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma have been spectacular with the pacers even outshining their counterparts from Australia.

Will injuries dampen the Aussie spirits?
Australia have a lot to ponder after the Bengaluru debacle and injury concerns top that list. With Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Marsh ruled out of the series, all eyes will be on their replacements. But more importantly, the injury concerns over Nathan Lyon will keep captain Steve Smith on his toes.

Matt Renshaw has been the find of the series so far but his partner David Warner’s poor returns are hampering Smith’s plans. There could be a high chance that they go with Glenn Maxwell at number six as a testimony to his bowling skills.

Murali Vijay could come back for the hosts in place of Abhinav Mukund while there is a strong chance of a third spinner being included. Kuldeep Yadav may get a surprise call-up.
Maxwell and Jackson Bird are favorites to replace Marsh and Starc but the arrival of Pat Cummins makes it interesting.

Ranchi will host its first Test match although local hero MS Dhoni’s absence may dampen the spirt of supporters. With another sluggish pitch in the offing, India look heavy favorites. Odds of $1.62 (Sportsbet) don’t offer much value while the Aussies are offered odds of $5.75 (bet365).

Renshaw has been a pleasant surprise for the visitors through the series and at odds of $5.50 (Ladbrokes), the opener looks a good punt to be their best batsman. For the hosts, Rahul at odds of $5.50 (Ladbrokes) looks certain to be their top batter.

TIP: Rahul Top Indian Batsman – $5.50 at Ladbrokes
