Cricket Betting: England vs Sri Lanka ODI Series
England will look to extend their dominance over Sri Lanka when the five match ODI series starts at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on June 21st. With the Test series ending lopsided in the hosts’ favor, the visitors will hope for some success in the change of format.
It is easy to see why everyone is backing England to win the series. Great form in the Test matches, good recent record with the ODI outfit and favorable home conditions – all point to another difficult outing for the Lankans. But Cricket isn’t as simple as it sounds – especially when England is involved.
However, the optimism for another superior England performance stems from the previous results under Eoin Morgan. The attacking and free-spirited game being played by this group has endeared them to many supporters. Though it’s still a ‘work in progress’, this ODI outfit is one of the most exciting ones coming from the normally stoic England.
Sri Lanka have a good record in ODIs but their team without the likes of Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara and Lasith Malinga will find it difficult to match England blow-by-blow. There still is exciting talent at the disposal of captain Angelo Mathews but their ability in adapting to difficult conditions will once again be put to test.
Tillakaratne Dilshan will be the senior statesman of this side while so much will rest on the shoulders of Dinesh Chandimal to lead the batting unit. The series could be a little tighter than what it looks, with conditions and the winner of the toss expected to play a big role in the outcome.
England have a settled squad with a lot of all-rounders though the absence of Ben Stokes would be felt. Jos Buttler is a dangerous customer when give a free license to swing, which could be the case in this series. Back him at odds of 7.0 with William Hill to end up as England’s top scorer.
Dashun Shanaka was in good form against Ireland and could once again surprise the English with his nippy pace. Back him at odds of 9.0 with William Hill to end up as Sri Lanka’s top bowler. There is a chance that the series will be tighter and could end up 3-2 in England’s favor – odds of 2.75 with William Hill.
