Cricket Betting: England vs South Africa ODI Series Preview

May 23, 2017 by Posted in Cricket Tips

With IPL action out of the picture, focus shifts to ODI cricket and Champions Trophy. All teams are busy fine-tuning their preparations for the marquee event scheduled in England in June. England and South Africa will play a three-match ODI series that starts with the first match at Leeds on Wednesday, May 24th.

England’s chance to take the next step
England have always found the ODI format to be their waterloo. Under Eoin Morgan though, this team has shattered all myths and is one of the most aggressive teams for this format. They are favorites to lift the Champions Trophy on home soil and would be eager to nail down their best XI thru this series.

One challenge for Morgan and his team is to make a quick turnaround from IPL. Key players of this team including Morgan, Jos Butler, Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes have had successful stints in India on pitches that would be completely different from the ones they encounter at home.

England come into the series on the back of a 2-0 win over Ireland that was achieved with a largely second string side.

A long England stay for the Proteas
South Africa have a long England tour in their sights that starts with this series and ends in August with a Test series. With so much emphasis on their failures in ICC events, AB de Villiers’ side would be eager to answer the critics with a Champions Trophy title.

No doubt then that this series would help them to make last minute adjustments to their team. With a large pool of proven performers, De Villiers will have his task cut out to choose his playing XI.
South Africa too have players coming back from IPL but the two warm-up matches should get them back into ODI rhythm.

These two sides never disappoint in dishing out close encounters. Both sides played eight ODI series so far with South Africa winning four and England three of them, including the last series. In total, these sides have played each other 56 times with England victorious in 24 and South Africa winning 28 matches.

It is going to be a close series and predicting the winner will be difficult as both sides will try to give every squad player a chance. Whoever will win, there is very high probability that the score will be 2-1. Back England to be series winner at odds of $1.66 (bet365).

TIP: England to win the series – $1.66 at bet365

De Kock’s consistency and form at the top of the order makes him a vital player for the visitors. Back the ‘keeper to be the series top batsman for South Africa at odds of $4 (Ladbrokes).

TIP: Quinton de Kock most series runs (South Africa) – $4 at Ladbrokes
