Cricket Betting: England vs Pakistan Test Series
England and Pakistan resume their competitive rivalry when they clash in the four Test match series starting at Lords’ on Thursday July 14th.
Both teams have played some memorable encounters in the past, which only adds to the interest in this series. There has been a lot of debate surrounding Mohammad Amir’s return to the ground where he was found guilty for sport fixing. The crowd could be out in full force to sledge the Pakistan bowler.
England are a very tough side in Tests at home and under Alastair Cook they have won three of their last four series. Their only blip has came against Pakistan which should give the away side a lot of confidence, even if their series victory came away from home in the U.A.E. However, the hosts will enter the game as favourites after a successful start to the summer against Sri Lanka. With most of the players getting into groove, Cook will hope that his team’s momentum rolls on into this match.
The biggest worry for England is on the injury front with star bowler James Anderson and all-rounder Ben Stokes out of action. The absence of Anderson will mean Stuart Broad is going to lead the pace attack whilst Nick Compton has been dumped from the side in favor of Gary Ballance. Watch out for the red-hot Jonny Bairstow to put up big numbers on the back of his great scores against Sri Lanka.
Pakistan may not be as good on the road as they once were but they have enough talent to surprise the hosts. With Misbah Ul Haq still going strong, their batting will lean towards the experience of Mohammad Hafeez and the calm Asad Shafiq to provide support to Misbah. Their ability to stay close to England will determine their longevity in the series as the longer they stay in the match the more the pressure will be applied on the hosts.
It is with the ball though that Pakistan can provide a huge threat with Amir leading the pack. He has the ability to swing the ball both ways at pace which makes him a considerable threat while his partner-in-crime Wahab Riaz will be equally difficult to handle. The biggest challenge could come from the wrist spin of Yasir Shah who has been compared to the likes of Shane Warne.
Everything is pointing towards England to clinch the series and that’s why there isn’t much value on them to win in the head to head betting market.
The recent form of Bairstow has us leading towards him ending up as England’s top batsman at odds of $6.50 with William Hill.
As Anderson is out, it creates a big chance for Broad to do a lot of damage with the ball at odds of $3.00 with William Hill.
