Cricket Betting: England vs Pakistan Test Series Preview

May 23, 2018 by Posted in Cricket Tips

After two poor Test trips down under, England begin their journey to redemption with a Two-Test series against a young and inexperienced Pakistan side. It is a chance to set in a new template and ring in a new era – for both the teams. Which one will come out smiling at the end of this series that starts with the first match at the Lord’s Stadium on Thursday, May 24th?

England – a new dawn beckoning?

Joe Root’s men were woefully pathetic in the Ashes and against New Zealand, prompting a sea of changes. Jos Buttler earns a place back in the Test side on the back of his IPL exploits, while Mark Wood and debutant Dominic Bess are set to add a bit of dynamism to the team.
However, it still remains a team in flux as questions hover over the future of Alastair Cook. This could be a huge series for him as he continues to grapple the inner apprehensions about his role in the team. Root remains his side’s best hope with the hope as Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow look to add a consistency dimension to their game.

Bowling remains a lot more stable with James Anderson and Stuart Broad licking their lips at the anticipation of getting back into their groove in helpful conditions. Their mastery over the Dukes ball will be another factor in their favour.

Pakistan – talented, enigmatic, and inexperienced

The visitors are without two of their best Test players, as they come to terms with the retirements of Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq. With as many as five uncapped players in the squad, it is safe to say that this Pakistan unit is an untested one.
Therein lies their chance, as the likes of Imam-ul-Haq, Haris Sohail, and Babar Azam will look to rally the team around the experienced duo of Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq.

Bowling will be all about the left-arm swing of Mohammad Amir, while the likes of Mohammad Abbas, Hasan Ali and Rahat Ali will provide the oomph. Shadab Khan’s leg-spin will be equally important for a side that will try to go above their limitations and make a fist of the series.

– Pakistan haven’t won a Test series in England in 22 years, with their last win coming in 1996.
– England have won four of their last five home Tests.
– England remain unbeaten in seven home series, winning five and drawing two.
– Pakistan have won just three and lost eight of their last 11 Tests in England.
– Pakistan have lost six of their last nine away Tests, with their three wins coming against West Indies and Ireland.
