Cricket Betting: Australia vs West Indies 1st Test Preview

December 9, 2015 by Posted in Cricket Tips

David WarnerAustralia welcome old rivals West Indies to compete for the Frank Worrell Trophy with the 1st Test match of the three-match series starting on Thursday December 10th at Blundstone Arena in Hobart. It is a stark build up for the home fans after an exciting New Zealand series followed by a not-so-threatening West Indian side.

The hosts have started their rebuild under new captain Steve Smith with a series win against New Zealand. The 2-0 score doesn’t reflect how close the visitors were to leveling the scores. Australia made the best use of their starts given by Joe Burns and David Warner (pictured) while Usman Khawaja made his comeback worth the wait.

But, there will be personnel changes for the Aussies. Khawaja is sidelined with a hamstring injury while Mitchell Starc is out with a foot injury. James Pattinson returns to the Test fold after 18 months with a remodeled action while Shaun Marsh will hope to build on his encouraging performance in Adelaide.

This Australian side is still a work-in-progress as there are many players yet to establish or assert themselves. So much depends on Warner and Smith but the West Indies are not an opposition that will rattle them.

The Frank Worrell Trophy has been with the Australians for more than 20 years now and this West Indian side doesn’t look capable enough of breaking that duck. The glory days of the past are looking a distant memory as the Windies are struggling to show any semblance of consistency.

The visiting skipper Jason Holder is just 10 Tests old but has a huge burden on his shoulders. He would hope for some batting performances from Darren Bravo and Marlon Samuels – the two senior pros. Question marks still hover on the quality of the bowling attack and their capability of taking 20 Australian wickets.

It would take a monumental effort from the visitors to upset the home side. Frankly speaking, they would be bidding for a respectable match and hope to build to their future.

The task is enormous for the Windies and the odds on an Australian victory are very short at just $1.10 at Sportsbet. With the form he is in, Warner could be pounding the visitors all over the park. Back him at odds of $3.50 at Ladbrokes to be the best Australian batsman. Among the visitors, watch out for the possible debutant Carlos Brathwaite who may be able to show some potential.
