Cricket Betting: Australia vs Sri Lanka 1st T20 Preview

February 16, 2017 by Posted in Cricket Tips

Two different formats and two different opponents in two different continents. This is what Australian cricket is currently trying to manage! Their Test stars are in India getting ready for a massive series against an all-conquering Virat Kohli side while a team of Big Bash stars is getting ready to take on Sri Lanka at home in a three match T20I series. The first match will be played at the MCG on Friday, February 17.

Can Aaron Finch and co grab their chance?
It’s an interesting scenario for the Aussie T20 team – especially their captain Aaron Finch. For someone who lost his T20 captaincy to Steve Smith in the run-up to last year world cup, life has come a full circle. He was recalled to the ODI side and ended the Chappell-Hadlee series leading the side.

Now Finch has a great chance to establish his credentials! Not just him, the series is a great opportunity for players like Michael Klinger, Billy Stanlake, Jhye Richardson and even Moises Henriques to build on their BBL performances and grab a spot!

New captain and a returning old warrior for Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka will miss the services of regular captain Angelo Mathews but are boosted by the return of talisman bowler Lasith Malinga. The pioneer of slingy-action, Malinga had been out of the game for more than a year.

Upul Tharanga leads the side and should look at his side continuing their success story from South Africa. Their 2-1 win over the Proteas was a surprise result but had its roots in the performances of Niroshan Dickwella. The opener will once again be in spotlight down under.

Australia have happy memories of a 2-0 whitewash of Sri Lanka when these two sides last met in T20s. But this side bears no resemblance to that and it will be a challenge for the Kangaroos. Sri Lanka had a good outing in the warm-up match too and should fancy their chances.

Australia continue to dominate the betting market with odds of $1.28 (bet365) fancying their win. Sri Lanka have the confidence in this format and should be no easy pushovers, back them to surprise the hosts at odds of $3.75 (bet365)

Dickwella is in some cracking form and should be the main threat for the Aussies. Back him to be their top scorer at odds of $4.50 (Ladbrokes). For the hosts, it should be Finch at odds of $4 (bet365) who could be your value punt.

TIP: Sri Lanka to win – $3.75 at bet365
