Cricket Betting: Australia vs Pakistan 5th ODI

January 25, 2017 by Posted in Betting Tips, Cricket Tips

Australia put in a comprehensive performance at Sydney to take an unassailable lead of 3-1 in the ODI series against Pakistan. The teams now move to Adelaide for the 5th ODI on Thursday, January 26 with the hosts looking to make it a big Australia Day.

Will the Aussies relent?

The hosts started slow in the ODI series with batting being their major bottleneck, only to grow gradually into it. Barring the hiccup at Melbourne where they were thoroughly outplayed, Australia have barely looked out of control.

No doubt the Big Bash was a major distraction both for spectators and players – truth be told, the action in this series was a distant second to the action of the BBL. With the series in the bag, the hosts could be aiming to test their bench strength ahead of the Chappell-Hadlee series in New Zealand.

Can Pakistan avoid another hiding?

After a whitewash in the tests, Pakistan needed a fresh infusion of life in the ODIs to give the hosts a tough fight. Under stand-in captain Mohammad Hafeez. they looked set to do that and until their Melbourne trip, they looked solid. But at WACA and SCG, the old habits of shoddy fielding and poor batting let them down once again.

The biggest problem for the visitors is the lack of consistency and they are yet to fire as a unit. It’s not that they lack experience or expertise, but application from their batsmen left a lot to be desired. That makes us wonder if they can win at Adelaide! But their mercurial nature of play means that you can never count Pakistan out of a match.

Australia are overwhelming favorites to win and while they will almost certainly do just that, the odds are simply too short.
With David Warner set to be rested for the upcoming trip to New Zealand, there’s a notion that Peter Handscomb could be tested at the top of the order. That could mean more game time for the right-hander who has been a revelation this summer.

Tip: Peter Handscomb Top Australian Runs – $8 at CrownBet

For Pakistan, it has been a case of near misses through the series. Sharjeel Khan’s quick runs at the top has been a difference and the burly left-hander looks good to cash on his good form.

Tip: Sharjeel Khan Top Pakistan Runs – $4.25 at CrownBet
