Aus vs Pak 3rd ODI
Pakistan banked on their slow bowlers at Melbourne and reaped rewards with a series levelling performance. With both teams jostling for the upper hand, the Third ODI at Perth on Thursday, January 19 looks set for another heavy tussle.

No matter how much they dominated the visitors in the Test series, batting has remained the sore sticking point for the hosts. Chris Lynn’s injury opens the door for a debutant Peter Handscomb. Going by what he has dished out in the Test series, an encore is not ruled out.

There will be changes in the bowling too with Mitchell Starc being rested for this match. Billy Stanlake returns to the line-up while Adam Zampa is released for Big Bash duties. Mitch Marsh’s injury gives a call-up to Marcus Stoinis but he will miss the playing XI.

Truth be told, Pakistan’s problems in the tour have all been with their batsmen unable to stitch consistent displays. Bowling – and especially the slow bowlers – looked the part in both the matches and that is what they will be banking on in game 3. Mohammad Hafeez, who ironically was not part of the initial touring party, stood admirably for the injured captain Azhar Ali.

Shoaib Malik adds experience to this young unit whose grouse would be lack of opening partnerships. Perth’s bounce shouldn’t worry their bowlers with the trio of Mohammad Amir, Junaid Khan and Hasan Ali looking to continue from their show at Melbourne.

Pakistan’s win in the last ODI was impressive but that hasn’t altered the perceptions of betting market which still punts heavy on an Aussie win. Odds of $1.29 wouldn’t give much value on a host win while odds of $3.75 on Pakistan winning the match is still too risky.

With Starc rested, the onus would be on Hazlewood to lead with the ball for the Kangaroos. His steady control and impeccable lines make him an ideal punt to back as the top Australian bowler.

TIP: Josh Hazlewood most Australian wickets – $4 at Ladbrokes

Handscomb made a mockery of all the critics by scoring heavy runs in the Test series. A long shot but the youngster could end up as the top Aussies batsman at Perth.

TIP: Peter Handscomb most Australian runs – $6 at CrownBet
