Cricket Betting: Australia vs Pakistan 2nd ODI

Australia started nervously although in Matthew Wade they found a hero to lead them to an easy victory at Brisbane in the first ODI. With the teams now moving to Melbourne for the Second ODI on Sunday, January 15 it is going to be a test of mettle for the Pakistanis.

With due regards to Pakistan, the World Champions look head and shoulders above their visitors – at least on current form. Even with David Warner and Steve Smith flopping, the Aussies could canter to an easy win and that speaks volumes of their depth and quality.

Josh Hazlewood has been rotated for the first ODI and it could be the turn of Mitchell Starc at Melbourne. With Billy Stanlake injured, there is a cloud of uncertainty over his participation. Also with the pitch favouring spinners, there could be a spot for Adam Zampa who missed the bus at Brisbane.

Sadly, for Pakistan it’s a case of inconsistent displays all thru the tour. Unlike Wade around whom Australia built their innings, there was no one from Pakistan who did the job. Injury to Azhar Ali – their best batsman didn’t help things either. If he misses the match due to injury, there would be pressure on senior pros Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik to deliver.

With the ball too, after the initial fizz the visitors ailed to sustain their attack. Imad Wasim gave them control and wickets in the middle overs but Wahab Riaz failed to provide either which means his place could be up for grabs.

You would be tempted to put money on an Australian win but at odds of $1.20 (Ladbrokes) there isn’t value in that punt. And unless you want to be merely speculative, a bet on Pakistan win is out of the window.

Babar Azam is one of the most consistent batsmen for Pakistan in the last season and despite his struggles in the Test series, he impressed at Brisbane. With others struggling around him, runs from Azam could be vital for Pakistan. At odds of $5.50 (bet365), he is a good bet. With the ball, it could be Wasim at odds of $5.50 (Sportsbet) who may turn out to be their best bowler.
