Cricket Betting: Australia vs New Zealand 2nd Test Preview

Kane WilliamsonThe trans-Tasman rivalry will resume in the Test cricket series as the hosts look to heap more misery on their beleaguered visitors. The second Test between Australia and New Zealand will be played at the Perth’s WACA Ground from Friday, November 13 and we will be taking a look with our cricket betting tips.

Australia dominated New Zealand in all aspects. Only Kane Williamson, and the weather, looked equipped to stop them in Brisbane. The Aussies started on the right foot with Joe Burns and David Warner pounding the Kiwis to all parts of the ground – literally and figuratively.

Steve Smith would love to see his batsmen dominate the Kiwis once again and wrap the series up right here. The bowling unit looked settled too and with the three Mitchells – Johnson, Starc and Marsh – in their best shape, the Kangaroos look all set for another win.

The ground, however, will pose a question to the hosts as they have lost 3 of their last 7 matches at the WACA. The curator has promised to go back to the bounce of yesteryear, but this could also play to the strengths of the Kiwis who will bring a strong fast bowling squad to Perth.

The one major concern for Brendon McCullum and his selectors is the fitness of strike bowler Tim Southee. He looked the only bright spot amidst the heap of runs conceded at Brisbane. Jimmy Neesham’s tour has ended prematurely and the visitors may be tempted to hand spinning all-rounder Mitchell Santner a spot.

Williamson showed resolve and technique to handle the Aussie bowling in both innings in the 1st Test. McCullum and Ross Taylor will be expected to bring their experience to the table as the visitors look to get back in the series. The Kiwis are notorious for their slow starts in a series and should not be counted lightly.

For the Aussies, Warner continues to be important at the top of the order and at odds of $3.50 at Sportsbet is a good bet to be the Australian 1st Innings top run scorer. For the Kiwis, it would be a crime to look beyond Williamson to top their scoring charts at odds of $3.25 at Sportsbet.

The Kiwis could throw a surprise here in the 2nd Test and backing them to win at odds of $5.50 at Sportsbet isn’t too bad an option.

A Kiwi win could set the series up nicely for the first ever day-night Test in Adelaide, while an Aussie win would seal it for the hosts. Which way will it sway?
