Cricket Betting: Australia vs New Zealand 2nd ODI Preview

December 5, 2016 by Posted in Cricket Tips

Australia emphatically put the critics to rest by storming to a win in the first ODI against New Zealand. The caravan now moves to Canberra where the hosts will have a chance to regain the Chappell-Hadlee trophy. This is the second of the three match ODI series and will be played on Tuesday, December 6.

The win at Sydney was orchestrated by captain Steve Smith but Australia will just be happy to have moved away from the recent rut of losses. The scars of the South Africa series are still fresh but a series win here will go a long way in addressing some of them. Smith will only hope that his deputy David Warner can find more runs from his blazing blade.

Mitchell Marsh looks circumspect with the bat but his contributions with the ball should save his place. Travis Head has won at least one more game with a positive display while Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa should continue leading the bowling with aplomb.

For the Kiwis it was a demoralising lesson at Sydney. Their fielding let them down – an unusual sight at that – at important moments in the game and in the end their defeat looked comprehensive. The only positive is the return to form of Martin Guptill, but in any case he enjoys this format and always gets runs.

Kane Williamson might as well look at accommodating an extra batsman in Henry Nicholls in place of one of the all-rounders. There could be a recall for Tim Southee as well as both Matt Henry and debutante Lockie Ferguson were expensive in Sydney. Trent Boult should continue leading the bowling attack and Mitchell Santner may remain the lone spinner.

Australia are the punter markets’ choice as the odds on an Aussie win are as low as 1.29 (Sportsbet). A Kiwi win is being offered at odds of 3.66 (Sportsbet) which is not a bad ploy on the whole.

TIP: New Zealand to Win – $3.66 at Sportsbet

Williamson and Warner pride themselves on leading the charge and would be adamant at missing the chance in Sydney. Both players are vital for their respective sides and should be good punts to be the best batsmen. Warner is offered odds of 3.75 (Sportsbet) while Williamson is at odds of 3.5 (Sportsbet).

TIP: David Warner Most Runs, Australia – $3.75 at Sportsbet
TIP: Kane Williamson Most Runs, New Zealand – $3.50 at Sportsbet
