The trans-Tasman rivalry is back as Australia and New Zealand will renew the hostilities with the first of the three cricket Test match series starting at Brisbane on Thursday, 5th November.

Australia will be playing their first full test under the leadership of Steve Smith who has taken over from Michael Clarke. This also heralds a new era for the Aussies after the retirements of many players following the Ashes.

Usman Khawaja was recalled to the squad and could slot in the number three position to let Smith drop down to four. Joe Burns was preferred as the opener and will be eager to cement his position.

Mitchell Marsh will be expected to don the all-rounder cap, especially with very few multi-skilled players in the current team. Smith just rolls his arm over these days which puts more emphasis on Marsh’s skills with both bat and ball. Peter Siddle appears likely to miss out on the final spot to Josh Hazlewood.
New Zealand will play their first Test in Australia since 2011. This series, in many ways, represents the best chance for the Black Caps to topple their illustrious neighbours.

Under Brendon McCullum, the team has shaped up nicely raking up significant victories. The form of McCullum with the willow will be crucial. Equally important is the form of Kane Williamson, who is probably the most technically correct batsman in the world at the moment.

The strength for the visitors though will be their pace attack. The swing duo of Tim Southee and Trent Boult will try to stifle the Aussies early on to put pressure on the inexperienced hosts.

The series has already spiced up with Warner raking up the comments of McCullum on Smith during the ‘handling the ball’ issue of Ben Stokes in England. This Kiwi side prides itself on being sledge-free while the Aussies don’t mind a word or two. That should add a new dimension to this game.

There is not too much value on an Australian win for this game at $1.70 at CrownBet, but this looks like the play. Warner’s experience at the top could be crucial for the hosts. Back him at odds of $3.75 at Sportsbet to be their best batsman in first innings. For Kiwis, it could be the calmness of Williamson translating to runs that could prove vital. Back him at odds of $3.75 at Sportsbet to be their best first innings batsman.

The home side looks well equipped to start the series on the right note and set the tone for the summer ahead, so that’s who will be going with for our official cricket betting tip for this week.
