Cricket Betting: 2017 IPL Season Preview
The wait is nearly over as the biggest T20 extravaganza is all set for the fireworks. The Indian Premier League (IPL) will kick-start its tenth edition from April 5th and we look ahead to the chances of the franchises.
Defending Champions Sunrisers Hyderabad have an ominous squad led by David Warner. The shrewd purchases of Chris Jordan and Pravin Tambe should improve their chances this year. At odds of $7 (bet365), they are one of the favourites.
Kolkata Knight Riders continue to retain the same core that has served them well in the past seasons. With Gautam Gambhir at the helm, KKR is always a dangerous side for opponents but this year may not be theirs. Odds of $8.50 (bet365) make them long shots for the title.
A line up that has Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle and Tymal Mills has to be the favourites. Even in the injury-induced absence of Kohli and KL Rahul, the Royal Challengers Bangalore squad depth is good enough to cover up. Odds of $4.50 (bet365) make them clear favourites for the title.
Mumbai Indians are another team with proven performers of the past with Jos Buttler, Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard expected to lead their charge. They are going to be a favourite for the title but should be wary of starting slow. Odds being offered on their win are $7 (bet365).
Delhi Daredevils have received two strong hits even before a ball was bowled with JP Duminy and Quinton de Kock sidelined with injuries. The side still lacks balance and at odds of $9 (bet365) they are a very distant punt to win the title.
Gujarat Lions surprised everyone last season by topping the regular season table. They may not be able to replicate that feat considering their inept purchases in the auction – although they may still go on to do wonders with their squad. Odds of $6.50 (bet365) on their win do not tell the whole picture and it would be a real surprise if they win.
Rising Pune Supergiant was the center of all attention so far – both good and bad. The change of captaincy, the capture of Ben Stokes to go with the change of name – it would take all the calmness of Smith and Dhoni put together to ease their nerves. Can the Pune side live up to the lofted expectations? We really doubt, and the odds of $7 (Ladbrokes) indicate the same.
Then is the tale of Kings XI Punjab who have blown hot and cold so often in the IPL history. A change of captaincy means Glenn Maxwell will have the onerous task of leading the side. Can he do a miracle? Odds of $11 (Ladbrokes) on their win indicate it surely will be a miracle if they clinch the title!
Despite the absence of Kohli, RCB should be favorites for the title.
TIP: Royal Challengers Bangalore to win the 2017 IPL – $4.50 at bet365
