Caulfield Racing: Caulfield Guineas Betting Tips
Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas 1600m – Group 1
Caulfield hosts a spectacular day of racing on Saturday with four Group 1’s on the 10-race card, including the all important stallion making Caulfield Guineas for the colts and geldings.
The track at Caulfield is currently rated a Good 3 and the forecast doesn’t give any suggestion of that changing despite the chance of a small shower.
The race looks devoid of any real pace maker so I expect Gai Waterhouse to send her charge Evacuation to the front from barrier 3. Revolving Door went forward last start and finished 2nd so I think we’ll see similar tactics again today.
Behind the leaders will be Saracino from barrier 4, and Good Standing will come across from out wide. Divine Prophet will hold a prominent position from his inside draw, and Sacred Elixir should get a gun run in midfield from barrier 7.
Land Of Plenty and Hey Doc will need luck slotting in from wide barriers, while Impending will be taken back from barrier 10. Seaburge and Wazzanme will also be in the back half of the field, along with Kaching, So Si Bon and Barbie’s Joy.
There’s really only four runners that interest me here.
Sacred Elixir’s win first up was somewhat of a surprise and he was always going to be better suited second up in the Guineas over the 1600m. He’s drawn perfectly and should get an ideal run in midfield, and based on his performance the other day I think the $6 available looks appealing.
Impending looks the best of the Sydney horses after he ran down Divine Prophet to win the Stan Fox Stakes. He will be forced back from barrier 10 but he should be very hard to hold out and there has already been early money for him.
Divine Prophet had a start on Impending but couldn’t hold him out, though he did find the front very early and was left a sitting duck. He will once again have a few lengths on Impending at the top of the straight and the 1600m was always going to suit him, so if he gets the right gaps he is certainly in with a big chance.
One at decent odds worth considering is another Kiwi, Saracino. He won the Group 2 Danehill Stakes at his first start in Australia before flying home in the Guineas Prelude after being held up badly in the straight. From barrier 4 he should be able to box seat and get the run of the race given the lack of tempo, and at $13 with Oliver on board he is a definite each way chance.
Hey Doc is the only other one I could consider a genuine chance.
Happy to stick with the $6 about Sacred Elixir here, but the Sydney form has been better in recent times and it would be no surprise to see one of them win.
1st SACRED ELIXIR
2nd IMPENDING
3rd DIVINE PROPHET
4th SARACINO
