Caulfield Racing: 2017 Blue Diamond Stakes Betting Tips

February 25, 2017 by Posted in Horse Racing Tips

The $1.5million Blue Diamond Stakes is the headline race on the card at Caulfield this weekend with a field of 14 two-year-olds set to line up.

There looks to be five genuine winning chances following the scratching of Jukebox. The speed map has been greatly affected but there still looks to be a fair amount of pace in the race.

Expect Wait For No One, Formality and Blondie to be the leading trio, with Muraahib a possibility to come across from out wide. I do question whether David Hayes will send one of his horses across from out wide if it means Formality and Wait For No One will be disadvantaged and pestered by it though.

Property, Roomooz, Cao Cao and Tulip should enjoy nice runs behind the leaders and in midfield from their good barriers, while Catchy and Pariah will be hoping to get cover from their sticky gates.

Craig Williams decided to stay with CATCHY and it’s hard to argue with his decision based on her three wins to date. She has run good time, beaten the likes of Limestone (who beat Tulip) and Property, and looks to be crying out for the 1200m. I think she’s clearly the horse to beat but it is quite competitive and she has drawn an awkward alley. She’ll need cover if she’s to beat the others.

The barrier draw really suits her stablemate Tulip, who we can tie in quite easily through the Limestone formline. Catchy narrowly beat Limestone last start, and Limestone narrowly beat Tulip two starts ago. I don’t think Tulip is that far off Catchy at all, and she is heavily favoured by the barrier draw here. I think she’ll be able to sit a pair or two closer than Catchy, and she too looks to be crying out for 1200m. I like the way her runs have been spaced and I just get the feeling she could very well win this.

Property has been super impressive since going down to Catchy on debut. He will get a charmed run from barrier 3 and has the services of Joao Moreira. I do think Catchy has his measure (she beat him on debut and has run quicker time since), but along with Pariah he clearly looks the best of the boys.

Pariah finished 2nd to him last start but he really charged home in the concluding stages and put the writing on the wall. The 1200m is certainly going to be ideal for him, and his Sydney form brings him right into this. He beat a horse called Menari on debut, and Menari is a leading Slipper hope. With a touch more luck than he got last start, I expect him to be going toe-to-toe with Catchy late.

Formality will give a good sight out in front if she gets the lead on her terms, but there does look to be some pressure up there. Cao Cao could be the blowout if he bounces back from his first up failure.

Tipping the Diamond to go to the Hayes/Dabernig stable.
