Can Andy Murray win January’s Australian Open?
After failing to win a major trophy in 2015, Andy Murray will be hungry for success next year and could be the man to beat at the Australian Open in Melbourne. Novak Djokovic is currently ranked as the number one player on the planet and the Serbian has won this event on five separate occasions. While he will be quietly confident of his chances once again, Murray stands an excellent chance of toppling Djokovic in the world rankings in 2016 and victory in Melbourne would stand him in good stead as he aims to achieve this goal.
Standing in his way are Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. While the former is in the peak of his career, the latter is in his twilight years but showed his quality on various occasions throughout 2015. Federer is one of the all-time greats and will receive plenty of support and backing throughout the competition. The Swiss star seems to get better with age and he could cause problems for the British number one. In fact, Federer has defeated Murray in each of the last five matches between the two players – an incredible yet worrying statistic for fans of the Scot.
While supporters will be hoping to see Murray lift the trophy, many will be travelling out to Melbourne in order to experience Australia’s incredible culture and visit a number of attractions, including local cinemas, beaches and restaurants. One of the most impressive sites in the city is the Crown Casino. You can enjoy a drink and relax in the evening after an eventful day at the courts, and you can play many of the same games available online at these Australian casinos. While the main reason for their trip will be to (hopefully) see Murray lift the first Grand Slam of the calendar year, they will also hopefully enjoy their time away from the court in Australia.
So, can Murray win the first major of 2016? Simply put, of course he can. On his day, Murray is as good as Djokovic but simply cannot perform at that level on a consistent basis. If Murray performs at his very best, he will be tough to beat and the Scot will be targeting a third Grand Slam victory. It will be tough but, with plenty of support from the travelling fans, Murray could well go on to lift the crown on January 31st.
