Big Bash League (BBL07) Round 5 Tips

Things are heating up in the Big Bash and the race for the finals is shaping up. It is still early days to rule any team out of contention, which means even those that are on zero points are still in the reckoning. Round 5 starts from January 4th and we look ahead to what’s in store!

Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers (Jan 4, 7:10 PM local)

The Hurricanes picked up their first win of the season, but worries over their efficiency persist. With George Bailey struggling for runs (28 runs from three matches), the mandate for the Hurricanes is to find a way to being consistent.

The Strikers have no such problems and have already picked up three wins on the trot. They are fast becoming the underdogs everyone roots to do well! Alex Carey (129 runs from three matches) will be the key to their fortunes, although Travis Head’s struggles are a concern!

Brisbane Heat vs Perth Scorchers (Jan 5, 6:10 PM local)

When in the mood, the duo of Chris Lynn (88 runs at a strike rate of 151.72) and Brendon McCullum (126 runs at a strike rate of 151.80) is a nightmare for any bowling attack! For the Heat sake, they seem to be coming to form at the right time. And, they also have Joe Burns and Alex Roos to boost their batting!

The Scorchers are showing that the key to success lies in continuity. With Michael Klinger (121 runs from three matches) putting aside his personal troubles to come back to the side, the task of stopping the Scorchers is looking mammoth by every passing day!

Melbourne Stars vs Melbourne Renegades (Jan 6, 7:10 PM local)

The Stars have lost their first three matches and look like a side lost in the melee. With just Marcus Stoinis (116 runs at a strike rate of 163.38, four wickets) looking a cut above the rest, the Stars need to get their act together fast.

The Renegades have picked up two wins out of three matches (ahead of their clash against the Sydney Sixers). The form of Cameron White (133 runs at a strike rate of 120.90) is a positive, but the struggles of Aaron Finch (12 runs at a strike rate of 75.0) are a worry.

Sydney Thunder vs Adelaide Strikers (Jan 7, 7:10 PM local)

The Thunder have two wins out of their first five matches, which puts them in the orange zone! If they don’t pick the tab in this round, they may as well start worrying about missing the finals’ bus. Jos Buttler (181 runs, strike rate 150.83) and Shane Watson (222 runs, strike rate 140.50) need more support!

This will be the Strikers’ second game of the round and they look good to keep rolling. Ben Laughlin (nine wickets) and Rashid Khan (six wickets) are leading their bowling unit, which is already bearing fruit!
