Big Bash League (BBL07) 1st Semi Final Betting Tips

January 31, 2018 by Posted in Cricket Tips

Such is the popularity of Big Bash League down-under that not even a full-pledged Ashes series or the Gillette ODI series could reduce the interest. If anything, the BBL07 has been a bigger hit with the fans as they were treated to some exceptional matches!

The fight to the semis berths went down the wire as the last two qualifiers were decided in the last match. We now move to the business end of things, as the Perth Scorchers and the Hobart Hurricanes get set to battle it out in the first semi-final at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Thursday night (Feb 1st).

Route to the final

The Scorchers have taken the royal route in their qualification as they topped the league standings with 16 points. Not even national call-ups could alter their trajectory, as the Scorchers found different players rising to the occasion at different times.

The Hurricanes have, as they say, sneaked through the back door to the semis. After putting their hopes in jeopardy, by collapsing to a spectacular loss against the Stars, the Hurricanes waited anxiously to see the Renegades torch the Heat and gift them the fourth place, with ten points.

Squad changes

With the national team call-up, the Scorchers will be deprived of the all-round skills of Ashton Agar (149 runs, eight wickets). However, the return of Marsh brothers and Jhye Richardson could go a long way in offsetting that loss.

The Hurricanes will be hit hard by the absence of D’Arcy Short (504 runs), the tournament’s leading batsman. They do get Tim Paine back from the national fold and it remains to be seen how he would be utilised.

Key players

The Scorchers have historically relied on team performances and this season is no different. Ashton Turner (250 runs) is their top batsman and will get enough support from Hilton Cartwright (245 runs). With the ball, Mitchell Johnson (seven wickets, economy of 5.86) will be the key.

The Hurricanes will hope that Ben McDermott (249 runs) will rise to the challenge in the absence of Short and fill the void. There are no such worries with the ball as the flamboyant Jofra Archer (15 wickets) is ready continue his steep rise to fame.

This will be the first competitive T20 at the Optus Stadium, which opened to cricket with an ODI between Australia and England.

The Scorchers lead the Hurricanes 6-2 in career head-to-head, winning the last six encounters. This season, the Scorchers won by five-wickets at the WACA.

The hosts didn’t lose in their last seven home games, although all of them have been at the WACA.
In the history of Big Bash, only one side that topped the league stage went on to win the title – incidentally it was the Scorchers in BBL06.

The Scorchers look good to win this encounter. Back them at odds of $1.61 (Sportsbet). The hosts look good to score more maximums than their counterparts – purely because of Short’s absence. Back the Scorchers at odds of $2 (Sportsbet).

TIP: Scorchers to win – $1.61 at Sportsbet

At the same time, that limits the possibility of seeing more sixes. Back the match to have under 10.5 sixes at odds of $1.83 (Ladbrokes).

TIP: Under 10.5 total sixes – $1.83 at Ladbrokes
