Big Bash League (BBL05) Round 5 Betting Tips

January 1, 2016 by Posted in Cricket Tips

Adil RasheedWith the ODI series against India looming on the horizon, most of the teams would be eager to achieve more results with the current set of players before some of them are called up for national duty. This calls for more excitement on the cards as Round 5 of the Big Bash League kicks off in the New Year.

Jan 2, 6:15 PM local: Perth Scorchers vs Sydney Sixers, WACA

There is something about the Big Bash League that kicks the Scorchers into action even with some of their senior pros missing. Michael Klinger and Shaun Marsh combined to overwhelm the Renegades in the last game and the experienced Klinger should be the vital cog once again. Jason Behrendorff is coming into his own with the ball while David Willey is proving to be a great exponent of the shortest form.

The Sixers were laid low by a Travis Head special in their last match against Strikers which could have diffused their spirits. Before it gets into a desperate dash for wins, Nic Maddinson would love to sort his own form and the fortunes of his side. Consistency with the ball is a problem and Doug Bollinger will be crucial if they want a turnaround.

Verdict: Sixers could be more eager for a win. Back them at odds of $3.11 at Sportsbet

Jan 3, 6:10 PM local: Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Thunder at the Gabba

Heat are still looking for their first win of BBL05 and will have it tough against the table toppers in the Thunder. Chris Lynn is the only one looking capable of scoring some runs and that is hitting them hard. Even with the ball, with the exception of Samuel Badree, no bowler is showing control and consistency.

For the Thunder, it is a completely different story. Jacques Kallis and Michael Hussey are showing that experience has more weight in this format while Shane Watson is eager to prove his naysayers wrong. But, the biggest catch for Thunder has been the performance of Andre Russell with both bat and ball.

Verdict: Thunder to continue their winning ways – odds of $1.57 at Sportsbet (money back if they score 160 runs and lose)

Jan 4, 7:40 PM local: Hobart Hurricanes vs Melbourne Renegades at Blundstone Arena

Before their game against Thunder, the Hurricanes looked to have found their momentum with two wins on the trot. Kumar Sangakkara is proving a huge influence at the top of the order. However, it is the all-round effect of Daniel Christian that is making a difference.

The Renegades must have been taken aback by the setback against Scorchers even after Chris Gayle and Aaron Finch exploded at the top. With the explosive quality at their disposal, they would be disappointed with the results so far. With Finch and Wade set to join the national team soon, they would be eager to make this match count.

Verdict: Back Renegades at odds of $1.95 at Sportsbet

Jan 5, 7:10 PM local: Adelaide Strikers vs Perth Scorchers at Adelaide Oval

Strikers have lost just once so far this season and will have to thank the cool head of Travis Head for their last over win against Sixers. Will he be able to continue his good form? With the ball it is the form of Adil Rashid that is leading their charge. His leg-breaks could prove the difference against Scorchers too.

Scorchers will play their second match of this round against Strikers and will be looking to continue their march. The experience of Hogg and Klinger is proving to be a game changer and should carry them deep into the tournament.

Verdict: It’s a dead heat in the betting market but lean towards Strikers at odds of $1.90 at Sportsbet
