BBL06 Betting Preview: Players to Watch

December 14, 2016 by Posted in Betting Tips, Cricket Tips

It’s that time of the year when all attention will be focused on one tournament down under – the 2016-17 Big Bash League (BBL06).

The sixth season is just round the corner and the teams are getting ready to make a dash for it. Let’s look at some of the BBL06 players who are primed to make this season worthwhile.

Dwayne Bravo – Melbourne Renegades

With Chris Gayle not participating this season – let’s not get into the reasons – the onus on carrying the Renegades will be on this mercurial all-rounder. Bravo is a constant name in the corridors of every domestic Twenty20 league around the globe. His slower balls are something which the batsmen are yet to master, even in this age of constant monitoring. Bravo’s fierce striking at the end gives the Renegades a stable look. Back this guy to be a top punt for ending up as his team’s best bowler.

Tip: Bravo Most Renegades Tournament Wickets – $3.25 at Sportsbet

Brendon McCullum – Brisbane Heat

Brendon McCullum was on Heat’s books last year, but couldn’t play because of international commitments. Now that he can focus on Big Bash, McCullum will lead Brisbane in all the games and that sounds very exciting. His explosive batting is best suited to the Australian pitches and if he can stay fit, he will be the difference between winning and losing. And of course, how can you forget his quick feet thinking as a captain?). Not a bad punt to end up as Heat’s best batsman.

Tip: McCullom Most Heat Tournament Runs – $3.75 at Sportsbet

Adam Zampa – Melbourne Stars

A rare breed in a world of increasing finger spinners, Adam Zampa is a proven match winner in this format already. The world is slowly coming to terms with his potential this year which has seen him topping the ODI bowling charts for most wickets. His international commitments may limit his participation with the Stars, but still he is a hot shot to end up as the best bowler for the Stars. He might only need a handful of BBL06 games to get that done, so these odds don’t look too bad.

Tip: Zampa Most Stars Tournament Wickets – $5 at Sportsbet

Ian Bell – Perth Scorchers

Ian Bell replaces fellow Englishman Michael Carberry as the Scorchers’ overseas player. Most people see a former successful Test player in Bell, but what he does quietly in the T20 format is nothing short of brilliant. His record in T20s in England is amazing – he made 489 runs and is the competition’s top scorer this season – which is why Justin Langer wanted him in the side. Back him at these odds to be the best batsman for Scorchers.
Tip: Bell Most Scorchers Tournament Runs – $4.50 at Sportsbet

Shane Watson – Sydney Thunder

One of the best in this format, Shane Watson scored 235 runs and took nine wickets last season – although numbers don’t really do justice to his effect on the team. Now with Usman Khawaja set to miss most of the season due to international commitments, Watson will have to shoulder more responsibility. He looks good value to be the Thunder’s best batsman.

Tip: Watson Top Thunder Tournament Runs – $4 at Sportsbet
