Bangladesh vs India ODI Series Preview
Bangladesh will engage India in a three match ODI series starting Thursday June 18th and hope to maintain their push to stay in the top eight of ICC rankings. A favorable outcome even in one of the matches for Bangladesh will boost their qualifying chances for the 2017 Champions Trophy.
This provides extra incentive for the hosts to put one past India. Even a single win will be able to propel them ahead of West Indies in the ODI rankings while a bigger win will gain them as high as 8 points. On the other hand, India is sitting second on the rankings currently and will not be able to overtake Australia even if they whitewash the series.
Bangladesh enters the series after a clean sweep of Pakistan in their earlier series. This followed a good World Cup performance where they reached Quarter Final stage before losing to India. That match was not short of controversies with a huge uproar against Rohit Sharma’s non-dismissal. It even prompted cries of conspiracy from the Bangladesh cricket board.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Tamim Iqbal are always dangerous in the shorter format while Shakib Al Hasan is one of the best all-rounders of this format. The exciting young prospects in the form of Taskin Ahmed and Litton Das should interest the home supporters.
India on the other hand are no easy pushovers. Opting to send their strongest possible team, India sent a message across that they are not taking Bangladesh lightly. The visitors looked good enough to win the one-off Test match but rain spoiled their chances.
M.S. Dhoni comes back to lead the team after missing the Test matches after his retirement from the longer version. Dhoni would love to put all speculations to rest and assert his authority with a commanding performance. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane will be a tough trio with the bat for Bangladesh to contend with.
There is not much value riding on an Indian win as it is more or less expected. They are currently showing odds of $1.24 at CrownBet to win the opening ODI, so there isn’t much value there. But, there is some value on India winning the series with a 2-1 result offered at odds of $2.75 at William Hill.
