AFL 2014 – Season Predictions

February 25, 2014 by Posted in AFL Tips, Betting Tips

With the NAB Cup well underway, we thought it was about time we take a look at some of the long term betting markets for the 2014 AFL season! Just like we did with out NRL predictions, we’ll take a look at some of the best AFL betting options as well as some picks that we think are great value for money. We’ll also revisit our predictions at the end of the season to see just how accurate (or inaccurate) we were!

All odds are with and are accurate at time of publication.

The smart pick before the start of the season would be the Buddy-less Hawks at $4.75. Yes, even without Buddy, the Hawks will be in a Prelim final this year and would be every chance to go back-to-back on the big day. The next two favourites in Freo ($5) and Sydney ($6) are also good picks and will play deep into September.

Looking at some value picks, we really like Essendon at $21. We all know about the year they had off the field last year but they also played some great football for the first two thirds of the year before the pressure (seemingly) got too much for them. Don’t be surprised if the Bombers finish top 4.

We also like Adelaide at $31 for a high value pick. They’ve picked up some handy recruits in Betts and Podsiadly, they missed Tex Walker for most of last season, and their young midfield will only get better.

Brownlow Medal

It’s pretty safe to say that Ablett ($7), Swan ($13), Watson($12) and Selwood($10) will be right up there again to win the Brownlow in 2014 – providing they stay injury and suspension free!

If you got in early, Fyfe at $23 was very good value. He is now equal second favourite and into $10. One of the best value picks available at the moment is Tom Rockliff at $41. He polled very well at the end of last season and ended up finished equal fifth on 21 votes! Steve Johnson also polled well (25 votes – would’ve been outright 4th but was suspended) and at $26 is pretty good value. If he can avoid suspension he’ll be in with a big chance.

Coleman Medal

It’s hard to go past Jarryd Roughead at $9 to take out the Coleman this year. He will be more of a focus for the Hawks this year without Buddy and should boot 70+ goals.

For a roughie, Joe Daniher at $67 is worth $10-$20. He’ll be the main target up forward for the Bombers this year and has added some much needed size during the preseason.

Rising Star

We’re liking four options here. Word is that Jack Martin ($4.50) is even better than his team mate Jaeger O’Meara was at the same age – if this is the case, the medal’s already his!

Other strong options here are Brody Grundy ($8) who will be Collingwood’s number one ruckman this year, Joe Daniher ($16) Essendon’s prime target up forward, and Billy Longer ($31) who will be looking to become St Kilda’s number one ruckman.
