The NRL season continues this weekend and we take a look at the best value matches for our NRL Round 23 Betting Multi.
Broncos vs Rabbitohs (Thursday, Aug 16 7:50pm AEST)
Our multi for Round 23 starts in Brisbane with a Rabbitohs victory. South Sydney played in a tough 18-14 loss to the Roosters last week but they should be much too strong for the out of form Broncos. Brisbane went down to the Cowboys 34-30 last week, which made it 2 straight losses. The concern against the Rabbitohs will be down the middle of the park. Brisbane’s forward pack was not up to last week and now they have to find a way of stopping the Burgess brothers. So that should open up the ruck for Cook to weave his magic. The stats say Souths have a good chance of rebounding as they’ve won 4 of 5 after a loss this season. The Broncos do have a good record after a loss as well. But this a tough matchup for them in terms of the forward pack battle.
Storm vs Eels (Friday, Aug 17 7:50pm AEST)
The multi continues to Melbourne with the Storm recording a rebounding win. They’ve lost 2 in a row against the Sharks and Rabbitohs. But they do have an 8-3 record against bottom 8 sides in 2018 and they rank number 1 in the NRL for points scored at home. There’s no doubt Parramatta will be a tough challenge as they thrashed the Dragons 40-4 last week. However, they don’t travel well and have a 1-9 record against top 8 sides this season. They’ve also lost both games interstate and hold a 2-4 record at AAMI Park since 2010. 3 of those 4 games have also resulted in a 13+ margin.
Tigers vs Dragons (Saturday, Aug 18 5:30pm AEST)
The value of the week should be the Wests Tigers continuing the Dragons woes. Wests are in search of a top 8 position after 2 straight wins. St George is reeling after 3 consecutive losses, which includes a 40-4 crushing defeat last week. So they just can’t be trusted at the moment. Not to mention the injury to Gareth Widdop, who is out of this game. So the Tigers should be confident here. They hold the 4th best defensive record in the NRL and that should be the key in this matchup. The Dragons have scored an average of 11 points per game over their last 3 games. They also went down to the Tigers just last month, 20-16.
Sharks vs Cowboys (Saturday, Aug 18 7:30pm AEST)
The Sharks return home in Round 23 and we’re predicting another victory. They were outstanding in defence last week as they stopped the Storm in a 17-14 win at AAMI Park. They hold an 8-2 record against bottom 8 sides and that should continue against the Cowboys. North QLD will be missing enforcer Jason Taumalolo and that will have a major impact against the Sharks forward pack. The Sharkies should dominate the middle of the park as a result. While the Cowboys are coming off a 34-30 win over the Broncos, it was kind of like their Grand Final for this poor season. They’re 0-5 after a win in 2018 and haven’t travelled well at all this year.
Raiders vs Roosters (Sunday, Aug 19 4:10pm AEST)
The multi for Round 23 will end in Canberra with another Roosters victory. They’ve won 5 straight and 9 of their last 10. As a result, they sit atop the ladder with a few rounds remaining. They’ll be desperate to earn a home final and that starts in Canberra against the lacklustre Raiders defence. They’ve leaked points in this 4 game losing streak and the Roosters attack will make them pay. While Canberra is one of the best scoring team’s in the NRL, their defence is on the other spectrum. Speaking of defence, the Roosters are ranked as the best points allowed team in the NRL with just 15 on average. So with the Raiders playing for pride and the Roosters aiming for a top 2 finish, this could get ugly for the home side.
